Also, am I correct in my understanding that there's a problem with the validation that would cause "pending" WUs to be moved to "Completed"?

Yes.

Not that I know of. There are some delays, but I believe (I could be wrong) that credit is just delayed a bit.

Until the pending list is back, you don't. You wait, just like the rest of us.
