I'm running BOINC (Windows version) as service. Where can I see the current progress? In GUI version there is WORK tab. I would like to see the same information in command-line. I think its hidden in some XML file but where? |

I think it is stored in an .xml file in the slot directory, however I also think this file is very sensitive to being opened by external apps. You can try BOINCspy and see if they have gotten around this problem. You can also wait until the CLI-GUI combo client is ready. John Keck BOINCing since 2002/12/08 |

look for fract_done in the client_state.xml file, in the main BOINC directory.. If you got a version of "grep" (MS does have free unix tools), you can do grep fract client*.xml also, to see your cache, grep wu_name client*.xml |

> what diff does it make? just click onthe work tab and it tells you everything > you need to know! Read his question again. He's using BOINC as a service. Then you don't see anything. Not a GUI, not a cli in your taskbar. It runs completely in the background. ;) So you need an app to see what is happening. BoincSpy 0.92 doesn't work too well yet with the service (not in my Windows 2000 at least...) ---------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

Thanks a lot. This client_state.xml is very informative :) I didn't install the unix tools but windows has find command in command-line thats almoust as good as grep and I found all the information that I looked for. It's not in very nice form but its there and with some programming effort it will change to form I like to have it. The XML form is quite good and makes programming much easyer. It is also possible to use the GUI client to look for that information but it makes another s@p process and clears the log, so its not a good idea ;) I also looked the BOINCspy, but there are some bugs in progess calculations so I wait for next version and until then I use command-line tools. |
