I'm finally back from stand up cooking out in the sun for 90mins out at the cemetery and I'm glad that the crowd blocked my view of my missus' resting place (and my future 1).

Anyhow it's time for the wake as soon as I cool down.

Cheers.

Posting on a Good Friday morning after a 17C (felt like 16C) start while 25C is expected before more rain and storms arrive and hopefully I'll be back home from a supply run before that happens.

Anyhow it's now time for a coffee.

Cheers.

Well I managed to take 50L out of my main IBC water tank and spread that around the veggies, but I'm going to have to find some dry bits of yard to drain more out of both until I can work out overflows for them. I also harvested another crop of carrots, but a failure in the wicking system produced mixed results. :-(

It was due for the MkII mods anyway to prevent that happening in future.

Then there's my butternut pumpkins. Last year's crop delivered 41 of them, but they were barely reaching the top of their retainers at this time last year (due to a late start because of cold weather) and this year they're all over the place with at least 18 fruit forming up already. They're even trying to grow over my potato stacks which are also still powering along and really do need an extra tyre on each stack if the next crop does as well with the new mix they're growing in this time.

I've also got 4 capsicum plants started, but no sign of the Chinese cabbage as yet. I'll also have to do another cook up as the last of the spring onions and pak choi need to be harvested soon, then that wicking tub can also cop the MkII mod, and some shallots can join in for it as well as some of those carrots.

I also harvested some more lettuce leaves, but there's no way that I can keep up with this summer's huge lot so I'll have to see who else around here wants some (i had enough trouble keeping up with my 3 smaller winter jobs).

I will also have to see if I can source a cubic metre of garden mix locally so that I can get that 2nd huge wicking tub into action to continue on with my experiments.

Anyhow it's now up to a sunny, but breezy, 19C (feels like 16C) here as I'm about to get my last coffee of the morning in and watch the cricket.

Cheers.

Dodging floods and mud...

And now enjoying some dark muscle relaxant...

And then onwards tomorrow to...

The food desert.

Well I managed to take 50L out of my main IBC water tank and spread that around the veggies, but I'm going to have to find some dry bits of yard to drain more out of both until I can work out overflows for them.

Shouldn't be hard to do an overflow. I'm assuming you have a pipe from the collector running into the top of them. A plumbing tee is all that is needed. Attach so the straight through of the T is vertical and feed your rain collector in there. It doesn't need to be sealed on the feed connection so you can put a smaller pipe lose into the T. The connection to the IBC will need to be sealed. The horizontal part of the T is the overflow. Pipe that downhill to where you can dump the excess. The maximum fill is now the level of the T.
You should even be able to work out how to fill the secondary tank when the primary is full using a couple more T's and some pipe to connect them. As long as the top of the T is open it will act as a relief gully.

Tapping a 50mm overflow into the tanks isn't the problem Gary as they have those parts next door, where to run the overflow to is. ;-)

We reached 23C (felt like 21C) here today, but no rain so I'll give a few things a bit more water after I feed Dog.

Anyhow I'll have to fire the old mower up tomorrow to get the grass back under control yet again and to add to my compost pile.

Cheers.

Posting on a Sunday morning just as a glow begins in the east and I enjoy a coffee.

It's 14C (feels like 12C) here with 24C being expected and I hope that the dew dries quickly so I can get a mow in before more wet days arrive.

Cheers.
