I now that there was an old thread for these, but I can't find it so I'll start another.

Rescue efforts continue in Türkiye and Syria as aid workers struggle to reach hard-hit areas as the death toll passes 6,000.

As the death toll fast approaches 10K satellite pics reveal the extent of the damage.

Satellite images capture Türkiye's cities before and after the country's devastating earthquakes.

It would appear that many of the buildings involved in Turkey were claimed to be complaint with the building regulations, but that was "marketing fluff":

Türkiye issues more than 130 arrest warrants for building contractors post earthquake as death toll passes 33,000

So what were the government building inspectors, engineers and officials who passed these buildings doing?

Waiting for the next amnesty so they could get their "fees" from the dodgy builders so the buildings could be declared complaint.

Well things just keep on shaking. :-(

Yet another powerful earthquake has struck Turkey as the shattered country tries to rebuild from a disaster that’s killed more than 50,000 people.

Another powerful earthquake has hit Turkey just weeks after the disaster that killed more than 50,000 people.

A strong 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck central Turkey on Saturday as the shattered country attempts to rebuild from a series of horror quakes this month.

It was at a depth of 10km, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said, after a further earthquake hit Turkey’s Hatay province on Thursday, The Sun reports

Just days earlier on Monday, several people were killed and hundreds injured as two more earthquakes struck the Turkey-Syria border....

Volcano erupts in Russia: Video shows spewing ash that spread some 42,000 square miles.

One of Russia's most active volcanoes erupted early Tuesday spewing clouds of dust more than 65,000 feet into the sky.

The Shiveluch volcano in the Kamchatka Krai region began erupting just after midnight, the Russian Academy of Sciences Geophysical Survey reported.

A video shared on Twitter by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows massive ash clouds rain down from the volcano. The footage showed the volcano in "full eruption mode," with the government account noting ash emissions had reached 12 miles high.....

While to our east.

Three powerful earthquakes have struck within an hour in the seas off New Zealand’s North Island.

Three earthquakes, one at a magnitude 7.2, have occurred in the seas off New Zealand’s North Island.

Geoscience Australia reports the first, and most powerful, happened at a depth of 78km at 12.42pm local time (10.42am AEST) on Monday in the Kermadec Islands region.

The second, a less powerful 5.3 magnitude tremor, was recorded at a depth of 99km soon after the first at 1.05pm.

Almost an hour later at 1.51pm a magnitude 5.2 quake rocked the region at a very shallow 10km.

Fortunately, New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said there was no tsunami threat following the quakes.....
Cheers.

Back to our north.

Magnitude-7.3 earthquake strikes Indonesia, tsunami warning lifted.

A magnitude-7.3 earthquake has struck west of Indonesia's Sumatra Island.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) earlier pegged the quake at magnitude-6.9.

At a depth of 84 kilometres, the quake triggered an initial tsunami warning which was later lifted, Indonesia's BMKG geophysics agency said.

Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency was collecting data from the islands nearest the epicentre, off the western shore of Sumatra, spokesperson Abdul Muhari said.....

Well that's likely to add a slight sea level rise.

Rare image shows sub-Antarctic Aussie volcano erupting

A stunning satellite photo has given a rare glimpse of a volcanic eruption on a remote island in Australian territory outside the Antarctic Circle.

The active volcano on Heard Island, known as Big Ben, sits at 2745m above sea level and makes up most of the island.

Images captured by the European Space Agency’s Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite show lava flowing down the side of Mawson’s Peak on May 25, the summit of Big Ben.

The lava flow was still visible days later, despite the island being obscured by clouds.

Big Ben is known to have erupted at least four times since 2000. The last known eruption occurred in 2016 and was witnessed and recorded by scientists who happened to be in the area on an expedition....

Things are getting warm in Iceland.

Iceland volcano eruption prompts warnings to stay away from Litli-Hrutur mountain.

Iceland's Fagradalsfjall volcano has erupted, spewing lava and noxious gases, and prompting warnings to stay away from the area.

The eruption began on Monday afternoon, local time, after thousands of earthquakes in the area, meteorological authorities said.

Aerial footage showed streams of orange molten lava and clouds of gas spewing from a snaking fissure about 900 metres long.

The volcano, located in an uninhabited valley near the Litli-Hrútur mountain about 30 kilometres south-west of Reykjavik, last erupted about 11 months ago.

Iceland's nearby international Keflavik Airport remained open on Tuesday.

Previous eruptions in 2021 and 2022 occurred without causing damage or disruptions to flights.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office said the eruption was initially more explosive than the previous two......

Bad news- At least 296 dead, 153 injured in magnitude-6.8 Morocco earthquake

At least 296 people have been killed in a magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday night (local time).

The Interior Ministry said the number constituted a preliminary death toll and that 153 people had also been injured.
A local official said most of the deaths were in mountain areas that were hard to reach.

Residents of Marrakech, the nearest major city to the epicentre, said some buildings had collapsed in the old city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and local television showed pictures of a fallen mosque minaret with rubble lying on smashed cars.

...

The quake's epicentre was at a relatively shallow depth of 18.5 kilometres and occurred about 72km south-west of Marrakech and 56km west of the town of Oukaimeden just after 11pm, according to the United States Geological Survey.
