Plenty of ice around here this morning if anyone wants to cool down. ;-)

Cheers.

Well it's warm enough outside now, 12C (feels like 7C), to head on out front of the shed and sharpen some small axe heads right up this morning.

Cheers.

Winning after a day of honing down and polishing 4 hatchet heads towards a fine edge that will easily split our hardwoods while producing enough split wood to get the wood heater going in the morning to get some more welding done.

Now that the mercury here has already arrived at Frostville, 1C (feels like -1C) with -3C expected, I'm about ready for bad.

Cheers.

Posting on a very frosty Saturday morning.

I just checked the temp outside and it's -5C (feels like -8C).

Cheers.

Now that's getting towards proper cold. Only and 35C to drop and .... well let's just say "F&C agree".

Well the shed's solar heating system just wasn't cutting this morning as it struggled getting the temp down there from 2C-10C so 30mins ago I gave Robbie the Robot a hearty breakfast before lighting him right up.

I just had to idle him back down as the temp down there has rocketed past 25C while it's 7C (feels like 5C) outside with patches of frost still hanging in there.

Anyhow I'll have my last coffee break for the morning before I get back into my steel surgery.

Cheers.

Happy Birthday to whoever it is Mike. ;-)

Well our 1st prototype looks the be a success, https://www.facebook.com/100003366994100/videos/pcb.5037648256357358/8002478303110600 (if the link works), and it's my little featherweight mate doing the swinging with the back end of a 4.5kg (10lb) block splitter. A 1.8kg long handled mallet is enough for me to do the same job (but he is only half my size).

It shouldn't take me long to get downstairs in the shed warm enough early in the morning so that I can spot weld the 2nd frame together with my mig before my little mate hits it all up with the stick before I'm allowed to make a racket outside on a Sunday morning with more weld grinding.

Now I'm clean again I'm going to enjoy a rum or 2 before bed.

Cheers.

Yeah my annual tick over happened the other day also Mike, but I still don't really think it (the body tells another story though), so I hope that you thoroughly enjoy it buddy. ;-)

As for the wood splitter, I had to linish out a lot of metal from those blades to split our hardwoods that we use/get/grow here as the idea I grabbed it from was designed for European softwoods I reckon as I needed to get a pro's axe profile on those heads to do the job as the wood (and everything else) just bounced on the standard heavy shoulders of the edges that bloke used. I also had to make my own measurements up as none were provided in the clip or site so I based it on the longest piece of wood that I get delivered here and the hatchets that I could source in the number required (I certainly got a funny look from the girl at the checkout when I dumped down 8 hatches. I told her that they were for hatchet throwing competitions).

All in all I think that we've done a pretty good job so far and I can't wait to get the 1st 1 finished up and painted in something bright.

Anyhow it's now time for a rum or 2 before bed. :-D

Cheers.

That has been thought about Sten and I've been planning another splitter using an air assisted 20T bottle jack to split the big rounds that get dropped off here. ;-)

Anyhow I'm going to enjoy this coffee now before I go downstairs to light the fire.

Cheers.
