Message 2085155 - Posted: 28 Sep 2021, 13:27:51 UTC

This is somewhat difficult to talk about, but could I ask for some thoughts, please. I am about to start on a sequence of Chemo- and radiotherapy to ensure that I have no remaining C cells after surgery to remove a small, early detected Cancer.

I am not looking forward to this treatment, as the side effects do sound not very nice. I am trying to focus on the end result rather than the journey itself for my own peace of mind.

Sorry if I have taken this thread into not nice territory, please remove it if the Admins feel this is inappropriate. I will understand.
Happy Crunching,

Graham

Are there others you can talk to who have already come through the same journey?

Is there any advice you can follow to prepare and to be as fit and as ready as possible so that you can feel for yourself that you're well prepared?

And in any case: Good luck!

Best wishes,
Martin

As has been said not a nice subject.
BUT
It is one that needs to be looked at as I'm sure there are those reading this thread have walked similar paths. As an individual and as a moderator I hope any discussion is polite and helpful and that any posts that do not reflect this will be removed.

Good luck Graham. I know the treatment may feel worse than death. But try to persevere and get well again. We don’t want to count you as crossed over before your time has come.
I know on a different subject things are still not good. My supervisor and friend at work has to deal with many things. He and his mother have been battling the dreaded COVID problem. Even vaccinated they both got it. He has been able to return to work. His vulnerable mother lost her fight. I haven’t seen him yet to know how he is taking her loss. I hope it is not to bad.

Thank you all for your wishes.

I have my wife, who is obviously concerned, but who is helping m stay grounded at the same time as I am supporting her, which gives me someone else to concentrate on.

I have several very good friends who are keeping me laughing, and who are happy to listen to my daft attempts at humour, as well as keeping me sane, both of which they have been doing for many years. they are a lot more important now.

If people don't mind I may well keep a sort of diary on here once I start the treatment, but I think I'll start a new thread for it. This way people can take it or leave it as they wish.
Happy Crunching,

Graham

Great Idea Graham,
I am glad to hear you are keeping your spirits up. Sometimes it takes a village to accomplish your goals. Glad you have one of family and friends.

Hi All,
For those that are interested:-

Update 1
I now know the start date for my treatment, it is the 18th of October.
I will be having IV Chemo to start with, followed by tablets to take at home. The Radiotherapy will start at the same time.

I am going for the radiotherapy planning at 11:00 on 7th Oct, and Chemo planning on the 11th Oct. \I should have more info about how long and dosages after these meetings.

I do wish this wasn't necessary, but I need to get this over with now, and stay positive to support me and my wife.

I'll try to answer any questions, and update how I'm feeling etc as things progress as a sort of pressure relief valve.

Please ignore and pass on to the next post if you're not interested.
Happy Crunching,

Graham
