‘Fraudster’ bought $19,000 dump truck and booze with cash from COVID loan, feds say
... The 40 year old man was previously charged with fraud, money laundering and identity theft involving a $1.5 million scheme in 2009, prosecutors said. He was sentenced to more than nine years in prison, sent back for an additional three months and ultimately released in February 2019 with a lengthy period of supervised release.

He was still under court supervision when the alleged offenses occurred last year.

Woman’s $800 shopping ‘fail’ goes viral.

The world of online shopping can be hit and miss.

Sometimes your items come looking exactly like the advertised picture … and sometimes they look very different.

In this woman’s case, it was a bit of both with some viewers labelling her purchase trendy, while others branded it a shopping fail.

In a now viral TikTok video, which has clocked more than 2.9 million views, a woman’s friend became so shocked by her purchase, she had to share it with the rest of the world.

In the clip, TikTok user @Emareeeeeeeeeeeee, who goes by Em, filmed her mate lying down next to a pair of green pants worth $US633 ($A817).
I wonder who they were made to fit?

Cheers.

At least one other home was on fire as well as several other structures, KABC-TV reported.

.. Some neighbors said the people who live at the home often set off fireworks around midnight.

"They always pop them off, random sometimes, like at night shows or a holiday," a neighbor said.

They probably will get off the hook for a majority of the fine once they file for bankruptcy like most of the scammers do.

They made 1 billion robocalls. Now Texas telemarketers get FCC’s largest fine ever
Two Texas telemarketers were given the largest fine ever by the Federal Communications Commission after they made around 1 billion robocalls, the agency announced Wednesday.

It also needs the telecoms industry/providers to add some security to plug the hole that allows such silliness...

... And to lose an insignificant part of their profits...

Man crushed to death while apparently trying to steal car’s catalytic converter: Anaheim police
The man was apparently in the process of stealing the catalytic converter when the jack failed, crushing the would-be thief to death, Carringer said.

A small scissor jack appeared not to have been secured well enough, according to Harp. He also saw a tool pouch with a cordless Sawzall near the vehicle

Stunning dash-cam footage captures meteor hurtling over the UK.

A meteor has “caused a sonic boom”, sparking a massive bang which was heard for miles in England’s south-west this weekend.

Hundreds in Devon, Dorset and Somerset reported hearing the mystery blast at around 3pm Saturday afternoon.

A taxi driver in Jersey filmed video of the meteor entering the atmosphere.

Footage shows the meteor disintegrating around the same time residents reported the huge sonic boom.

It has not been confirmed what caused the giant rumble, with the Ministry of Defence denying any involvement.

However, astronomer Will Gater claimed on social media that the believed the bright light could be a bolide meteor.
Cheers.

Hi,

I'm hoping you can help me make sense of the grammar of the following sentence (from ISBN 9781588346919):

"Teegarden's star counts itself in the majority of suns in the Milky Way."

I'm guessing that the gist is that Teegarden's star belongs to the most populous class of stars in our galaxy.

I'm not familiar with that use of "count somebody in" though. Are you?

And no, I'm not a native English speaker. The author of that book is, though.

That's the way I read "counts itself as.....".

Yes, your guess is correct.

I've not read the context but that phrasing is a rather 'old style' and is overly 'pretentious'.

Simply rewriting: "Teegarden's star is amongst the majority of suns in the Milky Way."

Although I much prefer your phrase.
