was just curious to see if anyone knew if there was any increase in performance or if it matters in anyway to increase the paging file size or if i should just leave it to be managed by the system. I know the general rule of thumb is 3x ram or 4gb which ever is larger but didnt know if that was different on a 64 bit system given it can utilize more than 4gb or ram for an application

That was from a long, long, long, long, long time ago.
Just let the system manage it. There are no benefits to be had (in Seti or anything else for that matter) in fiddling with the swap file size.
The only fiddle worth doing is to move the swap file to the fastest drive on the system if you have more than one.
eg- on an old system with a HDD, that has had a SSD added as a second drive with the operating system still on the HDD- move the swap file to the SSD.
Even then, RAM is cheap these days and unless you are playing around with huge image files 8GB of RAM in a system will see the swap file barely used (if ever).

Additional to Grant's comments, if you are thinking about altering the swap file on a Linux system, don't unless you really know what you are doing as getting it wrong can result in a very unstable system.
