Hi friends, my good old GTX570 unfortunately passed away <sniff> so I got something to lighten up my sad heart ... a nice MSI RTX 2080 Super. Unfortunately it looks like BOINC/SETI@HOME is not stressing it in any way ... : GPUTemp tells a GPU temperature of 38 °C, and the core load it 1% most of the time, jumping to 50% every now and then for a moment. Environment: Win10x64 (1903), 32GB RAM (16 GB as RAMDisk), plenty of HDD space. NVIDIA driver 441.66. Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-Z86X-UD7-B3 Any hint how to fix that ? Seneca 0=0 |

Your symptoms are a known "feature" of the current drivers from nVida. Just now there is only one known solution, roll back the driver to the 430.xx or 431.xx series of drivers. Download the driver from the nVdia website and do a "clean" installation (The option hidden in "advanced" during the installation process), and DO NOT allow Microsoft to update the drivers.... There's a lot more discussion about the issue here: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=84694 Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

right now his issue looks like he's just having the pains of running a very old and slow app (cuda42). the CUDA apps aren't subject to the issue with the latest nvidia drivers, that only affects the SoG app. The servers need to cycle through all the apps on your system before landing on the fastest one. which will eventually be the SoG app. you can fast track this process by running the Lunatics installer and switching to Anonymous Platform. However, once you get on the SoG app, you WILL have the issue that Rob is describing on certain types of tasks. best to back down to the 431.60 drivers. that is the only driver that will work for your card and all SETI tasks. Thanks ... I suspected something like that (similar problem with my old GTX570 <rest in peace, old workhorse ...>). Reverted back to 431.60 (with some potholes underways ...) and now it runs better ... let's wait what my RAC says after some days. GPUTemp reports "GPU Core Load" between 80 and 99% most of the time, "GPU Core Temp" at about 45°C (custom fan profile ...) Greetings Seneca 0=0 |
