Seting up a new Pi for SETI and I have googled this question but can't find any answer.

When Ive done Pis in the past for SETI I usually just use the "add/remove software" option from the Pi menu then search for "BOINC" I then install 4 things:

metapackage for BOINC client and the manager
core client for BOINC distribution computing infrastructure
GUI to control and monitor the BOINC core client
libraries of BOINC the client depends on

I add my account and it seems to work in the BOINC Manager.

My question is I also see "SETI@HOME application for the BOINC client (with graphics)" and "SETI@HOME application for the BOINC client"

Do I need to also install this? What does that do? is it needed? will it make it faster or slower?

Thanks

The one without graphics will allow applications to run a bit faster. You do need one of them.

All you need is the "meta" package at the top search.
Usually the "add/remove" option is the best way to go. I have tried command line and it hasn't worked.
Once the window goes away after clicking "ok" it is installed and ready to run.

After this is done I personally run a script to load program on bootup. Then do a restart and it's READY!
Among changing settings to run always and all the time and to get more tasks. I also have comment out @xscreensaver and used xset on the pi's settings.
I have not tried to get the graphics running but as mentioned it may run slower?

I currently have a "mini cluster" running it right now over PoE.
