Jupiter's famous Great Red Spot has been observed lately to be releasing plumes of colored material, about once a week. In the last couple of days its overall shape has begun to change. It now appears roughly triangular, instead of its usual smooth oval shape. The image, linked below shows what appears to be a blob of material at the lower right edge of the spot. It gives the impression of beginning to separate itself from the main spot. The interior of the main spot now appears like a spiral, with significant interior space mostly free of the familiar red color. http://spaceweathergallery.com/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=153739 |
