For August our average max temp was down 0.7C at 14.3C while the average min was up 1.4C at 0.4C as the month's rainfall was up 10.1mm on the average at 60mm and with 605mm so far we're ahead still of the YTD average of 533.4mm.

Well large sections of outback N.S.W. and Queensland have again been turned into a huge bog hole after this lot of rain passed through. More rain is due by mid next week so I wouldn't plan on doing any road trips out that way.

Well we here down under are now officially copping it from 3 directions with La Niña happening off the east coast, a negative Indian Ocean Dipole off the west coast and the Southern Oscillation Index is hitting us from down south, luckily I have a rain suit, knee high gumboots and live on the top of a mountain.

With all the rain that we've had here we now have a bit of a water dilemma.

Full dams leave NSW farmers divided over flood risk and drought preparation ahead of more rain

With La Niña threatening to dump more rain on New South Wales, dam managers are releasing water to make space, but some farmers are warning that could cause "catastrophic" flooding downstream.

Others worry there will not be enough water in the system ahead of the next inevitable drought, so how do authorities manage the water in the dams?...

With more rain on the way and ground that just can't soak up anymore this spring and summer is going to be interesting.

As more of the outback become impassable and Sydney has broken its all time record yearly rainfall with it now exceeding 2.1m, with plans to add a flood mitigation component to Warragamba Dam by raising the wall 14m, we have luckily dodged the worse of it again, but we have another hit coming tomorrow that we may not be able to dodge at all.

Well just 9 days into the month and we've already clocked up 62.75mm of rain (83mm is our monthly average) and 776.25mm so far for this year (long term year to date average is 672mm) which may not sound like much to some, but it is ridiculous for here with our 2 wettest months still to come.

At least the track down south on the hill is drying for the great race, but I wouldn't want to step off the hard stuff.

Meanwhile the army has its flying fans out flying around out west picking up stranded/bogged people and dropping supplies those who have been cut off by flooded or boggy roads (yes there are still thousands of kilometres of dirt roads out there) as more of the outback become inaccessible and the rain that fell here is flowing out there making it even worse.

Though we should get a few sunny days now before another comes for next weekend.

As the problems in QLD with Wivenhoe dam have shown, things don't work out well when a dam is used for 2 purposes, and they conflict with each other.
You have flooding so they get pressured to hold less water for greater flood mitigation. Then you have a drought & they get pressured to hold more water back to avoid water restrictions. Then you have flooding, so they get pressured to hold less water. Then you have a drought & they get pressured to hold more water back, etc, etc.

It's almost here as the lowlands get a further drenching.

Thousands under evacuation orders as floods in Victoria could last for 10 days.

Thankfully most of it should be well depleted by the time it gets up here and pass over quickly.

While water recedes in some place it's still coming up in others and we're about to get another big wet hit (I wonder if I can get another mow in before it gets here).

With 3 very large slow moving flood lakes (which are growing larger by the day) set to converge over the next week South Australia is rushing to fix levee banks that havn't been looked at in many years.

Renmark levee bank upgrades need to be fast-tracked, say Murray River irrigators.

They may want to think very hard about making them even higher as more rain over the next 5 days will only add more size to those lakes and we've just sent another inch of rain down into the Darling River lake with another 2-3" still in the forecast to come just from here in that time (we've also kicked this month's average rainfall right out of the oval).
