Well the river here is still up here sending plenty down the Darling system while others send plenty down to the coast, but it looks like the eastern escarpment has saved us from the worst of it with only 5.75mm in the gauge this morning (MTD:114.25mm/YTD:317mm). A lite rain is still falling here though it may not last much longer as the low heads south.

Sadly people are still driving into flood waters for some stupid reason and while there has been many rescues 2 men have lost their lives in Queensland.

Meanwhile down in Sydney they have now recorded over a metre of rain which is 80% of their average annual rainfall. :-O

All that means is that I'm staying on top of this hill on this mountain. ;-)

Well that low that was moving south decided that it would backtrack a bit and come in closer to the coast so we're still getting wet up here while more evacuations take place down on the coast with falls of 150-300mm being recorded down there so far this morning.

We should get 2-3 days off from this rain after today, but whether the ground will be ok to mow will be another story.

Lismore's 10.5m flood wall now has the water lapping near the top of it and the flood water is expected to breach that barrier shortly while the town of Austinville, near Lismore, has recorded over 415mm so far for the last 24hr period with a half hour left to go until 9am. :-O

Meanwhile the rain here has now been replaced by a fine drizzle.

Austinville wound up recording 430mm (almost 17") over the last 24hr period and Lismore's levee is no longer holding back water so it'll be quite some time before I go down the hill to do any shopping.

Anyhow we received another 14mm over night (thanks mother nature for that eastern escarpment) which now has our monthly rainfall total up to 128.25mm (a touch over 5") and pushing our yearly total so far up to 331mm (about 13").

We have had some recent sunshine here this morning getting the temp up to 18C, but the southerly wind is knocking 4-5C off that, with 19C being expected.

For the month of March our average min. temp was right on the long term average of 11C while our average max was 1C down at 23C.

Our 128.5mm for the month beat our long term average 87mm, but at least we didn't come close to our record setting March 2017 figure of 329.5mm.

Now I'll just have to see how April goes here in the Northern Tablelands.

They're copping it again down south with more flooding, dams overflowing and the unfloodable bridge is set to go under again sometime today. :-O

And the BOM are forecasting La Niña to hang around till late Autumn.
The rain is starting to ease off, but more is expected in the not too distant future. It would be nice if it could hold off for at least a couple of weeks to allow things to dry out a bit, but i'm not holding my breath.

Northern Australia.
It's meant to be our Wet season, but some areas have had one of their driest (if not the driest) Marches on record. Other areas are looking at one of their driest Wet seasons on record.

After a morning of trench warfare with the chipping hoe here this is all I need to hear.

Australian weather expert warns of increased flooding risk in 2022.

A dangerous combination of weather events not seen together in almost 50 years could see more communities Australia plunged under rising flood waters during the rest of 2022.

Sky News’ chief meteorologist Tom Saunders says signs have emerged showing the current La Niña wet weather system impacting Australia could be joined by another system which leads to increased rainfall — a negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD)....

I guess that I better get into swinging that mattock tomorrow morning. :-(

For April here we were 2C up on our monthly minimum temp by 2.3C with 8.9C while our average max for the month was 0.6C down at 20.3C and we wound up 7mm short on the monthly average rainfall with 42.5mm though we remain in front on the year to date average (328.8mm) with 374.75mm.

Now to see what May has in store for us.

With large sections of NE S.A., NW N.S.W. and W-SW Qld. mostly underwater evacuations are now happening in S.E. Qld. and NE N.S.W. (that's all that Lismore needs now) as this rain system slowly makes it's way eastward to the sea.

Our river that runs around the village is now at a height that I havn't seen since March 2017 when we got dumped with 329.5mm (13") and that was bad (then we went into a hard drought).

We got 53.5mm here over the last 24hrs which alone exceeds our average for May (44.7mm) and takes this month's total to 82.5mm so far (as the wet stuff continues to fall) while our year to date total is 457.25mm which is ahead of the 373.5mm average with less than half the month done with and there's still not a dry day in the week ahead forecast.

Anyhow my gumboots and rain gear are getting a good workout anyway while not much else is.

After already getting twice the average rainfall for this month so far while being 100mm (4") ahead of the average year to this date this is the last bit of news that I needed to hear. :-O

With La Niña predicted to continue for months and potentially into spring, another developing weather system could bring even more rain.

I hope that my shoulder comes good quickly so that I can get back to finishing off that new drainage trench of mine.

Two seasons like California, wet or fire and fire is most of the year.

For May our average minimum temp May was 4.8C above average while our average max was 0.6C below average and we received 111.25mm of rainfall which killed our 44.5mm average.

So far for this year we recorded 486mm which is still ahead of the 427.8mm average to date.

Now we just have to see how soggy June will be.
