We had 31C here yesterday, 32C today and 33C is expected tomorrow and Tuesday while 34C is expected on Wednesday before some possible La Nina happens, but these temps are far above what we should be getting at this time of year in the highlands, and while sunset is only 20 minutes away the mercury is still at 30C. :-(

OMG the mercury here has now reached 35C and there's still no sign of that wet cool change as yet. :-O

Normally here in the northern highlands down under during mid-summer the temp rarely tops 28C in the 1km high zone, but this is our 5th day in a row now well above that. :-(

Sydney got hit hard, BBC video - Sydney storm sets bell tower ablaze and cuts power to thousands

More than 20,000 houses in New South Wales, Australia, have been left without power after fierce storms on the first day of summer.
One historic building was set ablaze after its bell tower was struck by lightning.

We fell short of our expected 31C yesterday, thankfully, only reaching 27C, but the heavens opened up on us early yesterday evening (after 1 storm had already skirted around us) and kept on going until sunrise today leaving behind 55.75mm (far exceeding the predicted 10-20mm), though I didn't enjoy the power going on and off through it all or being woken up continually by overhead claps of thunder. That took us past the 3rd lowest yearly reading, that I've been recording since moving here at the beginning of 2003, set in 2015 of 757mm with this year's total so far at 768.25mm.

Today kicked off here at 15C while 29C is expected along with more showers and storms in the forecast again, though only 1-5mm is expected.

We have another 2 days of this oppressive and unusual heat to put up with yet here in the northern N.S.W. highlands before things are expected to return to more normal temps and I can't wait as this heat has been knocking me around a bit of late.

We've actually had some rain. Not just the odd shower or storm passing through (or though it's mostly been just passing by). And while it was only 10mm or so, at least it came down over several hours with some wind to help cool things down, and not all dumped in a matter of minutes.
Our minimum actually made it down to 25°c and it's only meant to be getting up to 31°c, not the 34° to 37° we've been getting for ages now.

Well yesterday was a welcome relief after the extreme heat that we've had to put up with here over the last couple of weeks as we couldn't even get near the 25C that was expected, 21C (felt like 19C) was the best that we could do, though the rain since last Thursday has been very welcome with 68mm being recorded and taking our yearly total here to 778mm, leaving 62mm still being required to pass the 4th lowest total that I've recorded here.

Today kicked off at an overcast 13C (felt like 12C) while 22C is expected and the bin chickens (ibis to those who arn't Aussies) are out in force enjoying doing a line search across the oval as blue sky approaches from the SW. If the grass dries out enough this morning I could get out there to give my yard a trim again.

This morning saw a slightly chilly start in the northern highlands of N.S.W. with a temp of 6C (felt like 3C) and we didn't reach our expected max of 25C with only 13C (felt like 20C) being reached, but I did get all my jobs done for the expected next 5-6 day of rain.

Tomorrow's expected temp range is for 10-25C before the rain starts and daily max temps drop below 20C for about 4 days which I'll certainly enjoy.

Well what a change has happened here in the northern highlands down under since last weekend. I put the fan away and pulled the heater back out this morning, I'm also seriously considering lighting the wood fire downstairs, as it feels like winter has returned. Yesterday saw the mercury here only reach 16C (felt like 13C) while just 15C is expected here today as it got started off at a windy and rainy 11C (felt like 5C) and the mercury hasn't moved in the 3hrs since then either.

The rain is expected to hang around for the next 6 days while the wind is expected to hang around for the next 3 though we may get back up to the mid 20's near the end of next week.

Finally got some rain- a nice storm in the early hours of the morning to cool things down & then nice steady rain for several hour afterwards.
Although officially there wasn't any- not a drop at the airport which is where the official weather station is.

Well who would've thought that a fire would be needed over a weekend in summer down under, but it has been needed here.

Yesterday reached 15C (felt like 10C) while today reached 18C (felt like 11C) which is certainly a big change from the 30C+ we had not that long ago.

We've also had a bit of rain, MTD:93.5mm/YTD:803.5mm, with more expected right through to at least next Saturday.

I'm going to have a jungle again to mow by the time that things dry out enough not to get the old push mower bogged.

After a bit of rain here & there (mostly there) we finally got some decent rain. 70mm over several hours last night.
100mm+ around the dam catchment, so hopefully a good portion of it landed in the catchment- dam levels have been very low for several years now, this being the driest and showing signs of being much worse till we got this patch of rain.

Well we've now passed the 4th lowest yearly rain total that I've recorded here since 2003 with135.75mm recorded so far this month taking this year's total to 845.75mm, but a bit more than beating that old total by 5.25mm will be nice, thought it's still well short of our 950mm average which makes it the 5th time that I've recorded below the average (some more rain is expected before the end of the month, but a miracle will be needed to get 100mm in the time remaining).

But the rain has really got the grass here growing berserkly and I just finished running the mower over the backyard again (I only did it 4 days ago) while the temp here has reached a nice 23C (feels like 21C) as the clouds start to build up again. I might get the front yard and lane way done later this afternoon if the rain holds off (1-5mm is excepted).

Well December here has been a lot cooler and wetter than November was (thankfully) with an average temp of 22C instead of 29C while 142.75mm has fallen so far this month (though more could fall here later today) instead of November's well below average of 14.75mm taking the yearly total to 852.75mm, but the grass here is growing like crazy and I'll be out there again today pushing the old mower around the yard which I only did on Sunday.

The beginning of next year looks to be cool and wet for the 1st week of it at least so far.

On 2 days this month so far have reached 26C the rest have been much lower with yesterday only reaching 16C (felt like 14C) and today only achieved a slightly dryer 17C (felt like 12C), but we have racked up 53.5mm so far this year as every day has been wet so far.

Hopefully the yard will dry out enough soon so I can get my 1st mow of the year in, but I'm not looking forward to attacking the jungle out there or emptying the catcher (which will likely need doing every lap in its present condition), as it hasn't been done since NYE.

Mid to high 20's are expected towards the mid to end of next week so mid summer weather is set to return.

Since records began in this region of N.S.W. in 1881 last November was on average 6C above the norm and the hottest on record while December was the coldest on record at 8C below the average and January was also the coldest on record being 9C below the average.

November I didn't like at all, but I certainly didn't mind December or January as we moved up here to the Northern Tablelands to get away from the heat, though it has buggered up some of my plants' flowering seasons.

Last November was also the driest on record being over 70mm below average with just 14.75mm being recorded here and December's 142.75mm was almost 40mm above average, but we did fall just short of our yearly average with 852.75mm being recorded here, while January's 118.5mm was 10mm above the average.

February has also got of to a cool start, but high 20's are expected this weekend, along with some rain.

Yep the west coast is suffering what the east coast did 12 months ago, but a 2nd air tanker from here arrived over there this morning to help them out.

It's now official, the summer just gone here in this region of N.S.W. was the lowest recorded by an average of 7.4C since records started for this region back in 1881 while rainfall here so far this year is also above the normal average of 267mm with 319mm so far being recorded and the wet isn't expected to end anytime soon with a total so far this month of 141.5mm which is well above the usual March average of 80mm, but I just hope that we don't get the 329.5mm that we recorded here back in March of 2017 (that lead to 2 years of drought).

No wonder I'm having trouble keeping my lawn under.

Yep to the wet, for this area at least.

Hopefully, the worms are not all drowned. Some of the moles have been surfacing to gasp for air. And our road has been cleared and repaired after a landslip.

And don't mention the horrors of the silliness that is the long-past-sell-by-date abomination that is monopoly greed and "ADSL" for a joke for modern day connectivity.


I do wonder what's been happening with the jet stream as we have been polluting the atmosphere and melting all the ice...
