Looks like the dry is finally over- now getting 22°-23° overnight and 33°-34° during the day, the winds have moved to the north (and considerably dropped in strength) & the humidity has bumped up.
Won't be long & the build-up will start.

We're still having smokey mornings here from those large fires SE & NE of here due to the overnight easterlies, but at least today the wind has swung early so it is clearing early, and it was an overcast 3C (felt like 1C) so with no solar heating working I threw a few logs on the fire and lit it.

Our expected max today is 20C, but we're going to have to see some sunshine to get close and with rain running along the border that isn't looking good.

Some rain would be nice (about 8" over 40 days and 40 nights would be nice), but it keeps dying out just before it gets here. :-(

Well it was a good choice to lite the fire downstairs today as LLB here was enjoyed by a handful of us in 28C comfort while it's still a heavily overcast 16C (feels like 12C) outside with lite shower cells roaming about (they're just not landing here, but you can smell them).

It was 25C (felt like 21C) here on Friday, 26C (felt like 22C) Saturday, 29C (felt like 23C) Sunday, 31C (felt like 24C) Monday and 29C (felt like 21C) today while the dusty'n'gusty westerlies over the last 2 days have got those fires NE and SE of here heading towards the coast again (there have been a lot of fire trucks going back and forth through the village), but at least that taste of mid-summer is over and tomorrow is expected to max at 21C and then mid-teens until next week (we might even get some rain too).

After a couple of days breathing dust followed by a couple of days breathing smoke we awoke here in the highlands down under to the sound of rain and thunder.

I just hope that we can get enough of this soaking stuff into the ground first before the expected heavy falls happen or there'll be a lot of topsoil washed away.

Today kicked off here at 7C (felt like 4C) with 16C being our expected max and currently it's 11C (feels like 8C). Tomorrow is expected to be wetter and colder at 2-14C so I reckon that I'll fire up the brewroom in the morning and get a brew going (that'll warm things up a bit).

There was 3mm in the gauge this morning taking this month's effort to 4mm (we had 5.25mm last month, the driest ever recorded here for any month of any year) and this year's total to 187.5mm (again the driest on record as we're usually around 600-650mm by now with the wet season just starting).

Apart from a few random clouds a couple of week sago, we haven't had any rain since mid may (5.4mm then) and even prior to that the wet came to a pretty abrupt end- only 163mm of rain in April, and most of that occurred in the first week and a bit.
Presently hot, slightly more humid, but still no sign of rain (let alone decent amounts of rain).

The weekend kicked off here at a soggy 5C (felt like 2C) this morning and we received 26mm yesterday and overnight (MTD:30mm/YTD:213.5mm), with a bit more expected today. Currently it's 8C (feels like 5C) and 15C is our expected for today (14C, felt like 11C, was the best we could do yesterday).

A partly cloudy 2-19C is expected here for Sunday with a slight chance of more rain.

A few days back, the forecast for 7 days out (Monday next week) was the chance of some rain, maybe a storm, then.
Now the forecast for 7 days out (Thursday of next week) is the slight chance of a shower, maybe a storm, then.
Before then, not a chance of a drop; even the humidity is staying low (for this time of the year).

Over the last 7 days we've received 45mm here and the land has suddenly gone from dusty brown to green (I may have to mow next week).

Well, the BoM (Bureau of Meteorology) forecast showers and storms starting this weekend, and there have been plenty about- just none of them here. All around, NW, W, SW, S, SE, E & NE- just not here yet.
Our monthly average rainfall for October is 70mm. So far it's 0mm.

Finally we got some rain!
After showers and storms all around except for here, this morning there were a couple of short sharp dumps, then some good steady soaking rain for almost 2 hours.
Last month we got 20mm (out of our usual 70mm, and almost 19mm of that was in one brief downpour).
73mm so far this month (50mm of that this morning, monthly average is 143mm).

Unfortunately he forecast for the next week isn't so great- there's the change of a shower &/or storm, but they're not all that likely to occur.

We've had a bit of rain here the last 2 mornings and today was cool 17C (felt like 10C) while the strong SW wind has been fanning the bushfires around here and making a few spot elsewhere.

Only 2 of the original big fires are out and with only 234.75mm of the wet stuff falling here so far this year it's going to take a long time to put them out with the lack of it (normally we'd be around 750mm by now with the wet season in action) so yes it doesn't look very good at all Grant.

[edit] ATM another fleet of water bombing choppers are flying overhead towards the fire just to the NW of here.

Well that was a rude wake up here this morning at a frosty 1C (felt like -2C) outside, 4 cold GPU's and the room temp down to 14C. :-O

At least 25C is expected here today and 28C for tomorrow and Friday, though we expect dust blowing in again on Friday before another cold snap mid weekend.

Thankfully we're up to a sunny 16C (feels like 12C) and the rooms back up to 18C while the solar heating downstairs has that up to 23C.

Well the gusty westerly has really stirred the fires up in this region of the state (the coastal strip from Foster to the Queensland border is well alight) and the village of Torrington (about 18km NW of here as the crow flies) is on evacuation warning.

We reached 28C (felt like 21C) here with winds up to 35km/h and gusts up to 50km/h.

The dust also turned up this afternoon so we're not enjoying the dusty and smokey sunset this evening.

The mercury here has reached 28C (feels like 19C) and with the wind blowing at 50-70km/h it's causing havoc with the bushfires around here.
