I have an Intel laptop that currently has Windows 10 Pro 64 bit that I have been running BOINC on for awhile. I was in task manager, and I just noticed that all my SETI tasks are running 32 bit. Einstein and MW are running 64 bit. This seems to be happening for both CPU tasks and NVidia GPU tasks (iGPU is not running any tasks for any projects). I'm running stock apps for all projects, and I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with this laptop. Any idea why I am running 32 bit? I was thinking of running through my tasks and then removing the project to see if that would change anything. Seti@home classic: 1,456 results, 1.613 years CPU time |

The science apps themselves are 32 bit since the developers discovered there was no improvement in performance for compiling them as 64 bit apps. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Ok, interesting. I am curious why, but I am sure there is a big lesson to understand. I just wanted to be sure there wasn’t something wrong with my setup that was not causing it to crunch as efficiently (as much as a stock app is efficient). Seti@home classic: 1,456 results, 1.613 years CPU time |

The BOINC platform itself is available in 32 bit or 64 bit versions. So you should install the version that matches your OS platform bitness. But the science apps are 32 bit in either a 32 bit or 64 bit platform. No performance penalty being 32 bit. Actually if I remember correctly from developers comments, when the science apps were compiled as 64 bit apps, they performed more poorly than the same code compiled as 32 bit. Something about handling the extra memory space requirements of 64 bit slowed the apps down. So that is why the apps are still 32 bit.
