M$ must have done something to the Edge browser, which I used as a source of gossip, using Firefox as a source of news. Now it asks me for an address. "Nature" has creted a Nature Italy site, with articles both in English and Italian, Tullio |

What will M$ think of next to annoy users. MS Pushes Edge with Full Screen Ads in Win10 The messages are being displayed to some users after the most recent Windows 10 updates. They appear to be part of an A/B test in which two groups of users are shown different versions of an ad or message to see how the response differs. |

Greetings, Micro$oft Winders 10 SUCKS!!!!!! This morning I got a notification that there were updates. Yeah, ok, might as well take care of them. About 2 hours later the updates were done. The machine is now on v20H2 of windows 10, up from 1903. I logged back into Linux and thought no more of it. I took a nap and when I was done I decided to update my laptop. It didn't take over 2 hours for it. Everything looks hunky dorey. I went back into Winders on this machine to play a little World of Warcraft. I noticed that everything was taking forever to run. I figured it would take the machine a few times to clear itself out. I tried to go into WoW from the launcher and I get a message that my video card, a GTX 1660 Ti, was not supported by the game. Funny. I was in WoW just before the update happened. Ok, so let's go get the latest driver. Got it downloaded and started the install. On the driver install it sat for about 5 minutes doing nothing and then I get an installer error. Oh great, now WTF! I go into Task Manager and find that some service for cryptographic stuff is eating up CPU, memory and causing excess SSD reads/writes. Checked the Internet for it and found a website that describes how to fix the service. I followed it precisely and it DID NOT FIX the problem! So, I'm stuck. I can either re-try to get World of Warcraft to run on Linux or I can do a complete, clean install of Winders 10 AGAIN! Good thing I have my games installed on a separate SSD, all I have to do is tell the launchers were the games are at when I install the launchers. Since I don't use Winders for anything BUT gaming, I really don't need to install any of the other programs I have installed right now. Problem with the second option is that I have to use Winders to put Winders on a flash drive. My current one is from the last version and I DON'T want to go through update H E double hockey sticks again. Updates for Linux is SO much easier and better. The only restart needed is for a kernel update. Micro$oft needs to take lessons from the Linux community on how to handle updates and NOT screw with user's PCs. lol Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? I have a Linux Virtual Machine with SuSE Tumbleweed on a Windows 10 host. It is updated almost daily and I have to reboot it every time. Its kernel is now 5.9.12. It is true that only kernel upgrades require a reboot but it is advised on all upgrades. Tullio |

It is true that only kernel upgrades require a reboot but it is advised on all upgrades. Hi Tullio, For Linux, except for the kernel updates, I don't do a reboot for other updates. Now upgrades will definitely require a reboot. I did a clean install of Winders 10 v20H2. Looks like Micro$oft has taken total control of our PCs. There are 2 choices for an account login and BOTH demand an account on Micro$oft's server(s). I never once entered my real name and now when I log into Winders, my real name is shown. When I upgraded my laptop to Winders 10 Pro, I bought it from Micro$oft and had to create an account with them. That's how I see my real name at login. :( My laptop does not show my real name because when I upgraded to Winders 10 Pro, it was still on the on-device login method, no "pin" required. :) Begs to ask: What are they watching us do on OUR computers? The only thing I do with Winders is gaming, everything else I do on Linux, EVERYTHING! :) I'm posting this on Linux using the Vivaldi web browser. :) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? I don't have a Microsoft account, nor a Skype account. The 2004 Microsoft update was accepted with no problem. I am using this PC with a Ryzen 5 1400 CPU and a GTX 1060 graphic board to run World CommunityGrid, Rosetta@home and GPUGRID. I got a number of badges from WCG. Funnily, I was refused by IBM in 1969 because in the interview I said that I was interested in scientific computing. We don't do any scientific computing was the answer of IBM Italy. My other Windows PC with a Intel i5 9400F is doing LHC@home, Einstein@home and QuChemPedIA@home, using VirtualBox. This is a Linux Project and I have to use VirtualBox on it. Funnily, my PC is faster than most Linux hosts, even those with 128 processors while I have only 6. The graphic board is a GTX 1650, which is used by Einstein@home and has a low power consumption. I used to run Einstein on the PC with the GTX 1060 with 3 GB Video RAM and I was scolded because that was not sufficient on Gravitational Wave GPU tasks. So I had to buy a PC with GTX 1650 which has 4 GB Video RAM. This was my first Intel CPU after the P II Deschutes and I am glad with it. Tullio |

... Begs to ask: What are they watching us do on OUR computers? The only thing I do with Winders is gaming,... Everything. Euphemistically obscured under the naming of "Telemetry" and other assumed innocuous terms... Windows appears to be merely a Marketing tool masquerading as an Operating System so as to exploit all and any users for greedy profit... Your use of your computer hardware is not necessarily only for your benefit... Interestingly, Apple for their products, seems now to be making user privacy a selling point and a contrasting Marketing differentiator away from such as Google and Microsoft. Shame that Apple still have an Alcatraz/Colditz styled walled garden to keep you anti-competitively entrapped in their Marketing ways and to keep you expensively forever penitent. All merely my own personal uneducated view as always! IT is what we allow it to be... Approx. an hour I accessed my e-mail or at least tried to. Incorrect password. Oops, I forgot, these are no longer the bookmarks on system as I restored from an image back in March. So, entered what I believed to be the correct one - Fail not once but twice, so went the forgot password route. Got code via mobile, logged in & set new password. Major MS/Win 10 flaw Thankfully after having similar issues with my MS Account on Win 10 back in March, after getting incorrect password on Win 7 rig, changed it. Job done. Went to Win 10 rig to see if the mail app would ask me to log in. It didn't, it went straight into my account. Okay, thinking... ...perhaps a reboot might be needed. Rebooted, logged in & accessed mail. OUCH accessed my e-mail account WITH Invalid password. Another reason to hate Win 10 & MS crap! Funny think though is that Win 10 on reboot did not ask for MS Account log in just pin no. :-) Makes one think though why MS servers allow the Win 10 rig to access e-mail account. |

Thank You Microsoft. Win 10 is a major PoS! Rebooted rig several hours ago & on startup, get a blank screen with cursor. Using other rig, googled it. Okay, got several solutions. 1st one hit Win/ctrl/alt/b keys. Okay, got login screen so logged in. black screen & cursor so tried next solution. Hit ctrl/alt/del, usual screen popped up so hit task manager so that 2nd solution can be tried... ...nada, black screen again. Shutdown & tried again, no luck, so shutdown (off for approx 30 min) Restarted & after a lengthy period of time showing just a blank blue screen win spinning circle, got the login screen, logged in & got "please wait" Now back without any fix being applied. Hey M$, why did you take out the F8 procedure in Win 10? Stupid move! |

Best keep off allowing your Windows to update as another update disaster is here. Source wrote: The specific updates are KB4598299 and KB4598301, with users reporting that both are causing Blue Screen of Deaths as well as various app crashes. |

What are they trying to prove? Windows Subsystem for Linux 2: The GUI features developers have been asking for Microsoft's WSL 2 is getting graphics support. Here's how to get ready for it. |

What are they trying to prove? Thanks for that. The answer is all in the last paragraph: ... WSL 2 is an important component of Windows 10, helping Microsoft bring developers back to Windows PCs. Integrating Linux GUI applications with the Windows desktop should make it even more attractive -- especially if it can be delivered seamlessly, without requiring additional hardware-specific drivers. The easier it is, the better. With an intended audience who only want to write code, seamlessly breaking down the barriers between Windows and Linux is essential to its future. The "it" there is both WSL and Microsoft... IT is what we make it... Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |
