Will they ever get the bug printer mystery: More complain June Patch Tuesday is causing havoc Windows 10 admins hit with printer issues after installing Microsoft's latest Windows security update. |

What Ed Bott points out makes a lot of sense, but as usual Microsoft is deaf, dumb and blind to the real problems. Microsoft, stop feeding bugs to a billion Windows 10 users. Here's how One release channel isn't enough. Microsoft just rearranged the Windows Insider Program, but the company missed an opportunity to help mainstream customers who are unwittingly signing up as beta testers with each new release. |

On a parallel article, I never would have thought to see such as this on such as ZDnet! Microsoft helped me install Ubuntu Linux on my Windows 10 PC, and it's actually pretty good wrote: ... If you're curious about what Linux is and how it works, Microsoft can help... Ok... So far... However, I still think inserting a Linux "LiveCD" or USB memory stick for your PC/laptop is admittedly a lot slower but also a lot easier to take a first look-see. Just note that running using "live media" is hideously slow compared to running from your internal (vastly faster) disk. Amazing how times change! Enjoy! THANK YOU MS & win 10 crapola! Both the missus & I suffered a slight acident within seconds of each other - broke our headphones. Well, they have lasted a long long time. Head over to Argos, the model used is no longer in stock. Ah good, PC World have reopened, albeit with restrictions. Ordered 2 pairs, paid & on order acknowledgement is some info. We'll e-mail when order is ready to collect so don't arrive at the store just yet. No problems. Receive e-mail approx. 30m later. 2 options drive thru or walk with 2 sets of instructions for either. Both have this: At store, click on the "At Store" link in the e-mail to let us know to get your order. Now the fun begins aside from some unmentionable curses, attempt to set up phone for e-mail. MS Sorry your password is incorrect. Oh no, not again, I had this problem when setting up Win 10 so know it is the correct password. Here's the problem which I also experienced with Linux (NOT a dig at Linux). MS IMO, won't allow any device not MS to access their apps. Got it sorted though, just phoned Customer Services, gave them the order number & explained the problem. Sorted within 3 minutes. Headphones collected. |

I updated one of my systems yesterday and after the reboot and login, I was greeted with a screen that told me we were now going to set up my new browser. This screen only had a "continue" option, no way to cancel or exit prematurely. Second screen told me we were going to set up Edge and did I want to set it as default browser and import my Firefox bookmarks? Thank the deities this screen did have the tiniest of X'es, but I could quit the screen. Then deleted the Edge icon from my desktop and quick launch bar. Of course it's impossible to uninstall this crapola from my computer. Thanks MS for pushing this onto me. But also thanks for not pushing it so far that it was the only option to have. You will probably wait with that for a future update. |

Microsoft jumps over the edge with this gotcha: With Edge, Microsoft’s forced Windows updates just sank to a new low wrote: If I told you that my entire computer screen just got taken over by a new app that I’d never installed or asked for — it just magically appeared on my desktop, my taskbar, and preempted my next website launch — you’d probably tell me to run a virus scanner and stay away from shady websites, no? Ouch! How d'ya work around that one!! Stay safe! Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

No need, just do a system restore, wait for the update to reappear then hide the thing. Worked for me. |

There was a recent issue with one of the updates on my work laptop, which is administered by the IT department. Shortly after starting the computer Edge would start full screen, with none of the bits in the top corner accessible - if one used the task manager you could kill it for a few minutes, but if you rebooted using task manager it would surrender and hie, but you couldn't start it if you wanted to (not that I ever did), but then Outlook would start and freeze. The "great" thing was this only affected remote workers - those in offices were OK, the IT people were in offices (naturally), but over half the rest of the staff now work from remote locations...... Needless to say quickly got tired of the complaints and sent out a downgrade to the previous build and the problem went away. I have to admit, once it installed, I did give it a try out. It was supposed to have imported all favourites & bookmarks from IE but what a CF! It wouldn't uninstall, so went back a day. Sure enough MS tried again, just hid it, job done. Even on my Win 10 rig, I don't use it. |

Greetings, That is the main reason that I do EVERYTHING except gaming (World of Warcraft) in Linux and have for quite some time. Neither the SSD that holds my Winders boot or my new laptop have the spring version of Winders. My main tried to get it but barfed on it and it decided just to go with the security updates. My laptop just never tried getting it and it just got the security updates. Both are still running v1909. Linux Mint updates and upgrades are so much easier and much less (non existent) nerve wracking than Winders. :) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? If, like me, you also hate Windows Photos with a vengeance and want to return to your previous Windows' Photo Viewer app... you can. Just follow what's written on https://quickfever.com/how-to-get-windows-photo-viewer-in-windows-10-and-make-it-default-photo-viewer/. Yes, you do get to download a registry file, but its contents are harmless (I've added its contents below). I despise the Photos app because it crashes all the time or stays in memory when you quickly try to watch some images and click the X on each image to close it before opening a new one. Photos can't do that. It'll crash. And then then nothing opens. I've got the Windows 7 Photo Viewer app back and am happy. I hate Win10 Photos too, but want to run alternative photo viewer... and still can't re-wire jpeg extension to it. jpg goes to my viewer but jpeg goes to Photo app that completely broken on that netbook. So had to rename files :/ SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

Thanks for info.I am using XNView. It is also cross-platform, since it runs under Linux as well. Allow some small photo editing and the application of a lot of functions (filters, cropping, resizing, etc.) I am satisfied with it. No problems remapping the files that I chose to it. Files can also be remapped to be open in the app of your choice from its file browser. Sleepy |

So much for Win 10 x64. :-( Had several of these & lost the credit as they never validated. Maybe this one will. :-) ![]() |

On my Windows 10 home edition PC, a HP Omen desktop with a AMD Ryzen 5 1400 CPU, I am running both WCG and Rosetta@home tasks. Also GPUGRID tasks, when available, on its GTX 1060 board with 3 GB Video RAM. They were not sufficient to run Einstein@home gravitational wave tasks, so I had to buy a new HP Pavilion desktop which has a GTX 1650 board with 4 GB Video RAM. WCG has already given me several Gold, Silver and Bronze badges. I had ordered from HP a PC with an AMD Ryzen CPU, instead they sent me an Intel i5 CPU. It was since the times of my PII Deschutes that I had not used an Intel CPU. Tullio |
