The Canadian CHIME radio telescope (Canada Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment) has found 13 new Fast Radio Bursts, including a repeating one, the second known so far, which repeated 5 times. Also two of them are in the low frequency area. Known FRBs were 50 to 60, only one of them repeating. Their origin is unknown. Tullio |

What in the name of holiness was found in these radio bursts. Were they recorded ? What was the spectrum? Was there any modulation ? The fact that it was repeated 5 times is interesting, if true---what might be the cause of this if caused by cosmic events? Hard to imagine |

They last only milliseconds and the power they have is huge. Power is energy divided by time. So I think they are difficult to analyze. Tullio |

A genuine ET "we are here" signal would repeat 24/7 surely? Sounds like clutching at straws in a wind to me. It might be a slewed beacon that bursts five times in one direction and then 5 times in another and so on. It is a crying shame that no more information appears to be gathered concerning them--as to content, space between ,relative levels of power, same frequency spectrum etc. Without this information we will run through all the silliness and hopeful speculation once again. |

The Canadian scientists are gathering information on the FRBs and they aim to reach a 1000 members sample before attempting any statistics. So we must wait. Tullio |

about 1.5 billion light years away Yikes! It amazes me we can even notice that. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Tullio, Thanks for catching that. There is a follow-up article over on: Signals from space: Five theories on what they are

The CHIME radio telescope was built for mapping hydrogen, instead it discovered FRBs. There is some similarity with the discovery of pulsars. Maybe a steerable radio telescope like Green Bank, Effelsberg, or Sardinia con be aimed at the repeating FRB which must be in the Northern hemisphere since it was sighted by CHIME. Tullio |

As you're not the OP, I suggest you refrain from such suggestions. |

Ubi major minor cessat. I have no objection of my thread on FRBs shifted. to prof. Lawn. Tullio |
