Hi. When my Windows 8 laptop starts up I have to completely install Boinc again to start Seti@home as it's nowhere to be found unless i do. Any reason why this might be? Seems to have just started doing it on its own. Many thanks |

Hi. Usually, Boinc will start up on its own if it was running when you shut down the computer. You might have to click on it in the menu to get it to start. But I don't think I have ever run into a "re-install from scratch" to get it to start issue. Boinc lives in both the programs folder(s) and in a hidden folder that you can make visible using the windows file manager. Poke around till you find the "display hidden" file/folders/whatever. The hidden folder is called "ProgramData" and Boinc is under that. HTH, Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Boinc lives in both the programs folder(s) and in a hidden folder that you can make visible using the windows file manager. Poke around till you find the "display hidden" file/folders/whatever.You don't have to make the folder visible to be able to get there. If you just fill in C:\Programdata\BOINC\ into Windows Explorer and hit Enter, you'll be in that directory. As for Windows removing BOINC, I also highly doubt it. Next time after a reboot check that there aren't BOINC parts still in C:\Program Files\BOINC\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\BOINC If there are, you can normally start BOINC by going Start->All Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager. To have BOINC auto start with Windows, open BOINC Manager->View->Advanced view->Options->Other options->check both "Run Manager at login?" and "Run the client?", probably also useful to check "Enable Manager exit dialog?" -> Save. |

Hi Tom I don't know how but somehow the installation file ended up on my desktop and the start up file ended up in the programs file folder....Go figure...At least if it doesn't automatically start during Windows start up I can just load it up via the desktop icon now. Many thanks. Frank. |

Hi Jord I think I may have sorted it now but i did do those checks you recommended....''Enable Manager Exit Dialogue'' wasn't checked so i did that but the others were...Hopefully it's sorted now. Many thanks Frank. |
