It been established that whatever is sporadically blocking the light from Boyajian's Star is in the form of very small particles. This has been likened to fine dust.

A new analysis seems to show that whatever these particles are, they appear to assume complex, symmetrical structures. Two of the prominent dips in light output seem to show round or oval shapes at the center, with opposing crescent shapes, equidistant from it, on either side. This kind of structure does not seem to conform to what would be caused by any known astrophysical object.

A link to the scientific paper on the new analysis of light from Boyajian's Star is given below. It contains diagrams of the results for the two greatest dips in light output from this star. One can examine these carefully and note the patterns in detail.

One thing that struck me was that while approximately symmetrical, the patterns are by no means perfectly so. The crescent-like features are not consistently the exact same distance from the center roundish feature. One is reminded less of the perfect symmetry of, say, planets and their rings, than of something like the spacing of streets in city grid. While generally symmetrical in pattern, city blocks vary noticeably in length, one from another. The relevant diagrams are are pages 21 and 22 of the paper.

I wonder how a family of comets, or circumstellar debris clouds, are supposed to have arranged themselves into a neat and nearly symmetrical pattern of a circle and two crescents, and then repeated the essence of this pattern much later, as a pattern of an oval and four crescents, all within the space of a few years. The same goes for a dust cloud in interstellar space between Boyajian's Star and Earth.
