This gold-plated camera is one of the beautiful instruments left behind on the moon from the Apollo days: https://lightsinthedark.com/2017/04/04/these-photos-taken-from-the-moon-show-lots-and-lots-of-stars/ https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/looking-back-dr-george-carruthers-and-apollo-16-far-ultraviolet-cameraspectrograph https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/camera-lunar-surface-ultraviolet-apollo-16 The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

So, assuming we revisit the moon, what will the fate of these objects be? Will laws be passed to preserve them in place for their historical significance, and will such laws be enforced. Or will greedy fortune hunters nab them for private collections. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. Wiggo, in my opinion this picture deserves slightly better, because quite nice one such, and also not seen before myself. Always ambition coming with a bit of cost, and some would rather wish for a cure against a couple of deceases instead. My guess is that sometimes results are being achieved in not always visible ways, but at least there were moon samples of rock being returned back. Perhaps science could be having a free will at times, but if still a difference between a doctor, and an astronaut, should it be about responsibility, or rather other things that could be accomplished instead? Or perhaps it rather became the success we did not expect, because always waiting for the final mission for such a thing, but here at least the lunar rover for just a short travel, and also a sense that it ended up being a successful thing. |

As usual, I am at a loss to understand the relevance of Musicplayer's comments to the topic. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Undeniable evidence aliens are among us. |

One scientific instrument left on the moon is still usable... Lunar laser ranging measurement data is available from the Paris Observatory Lunar Analysis Center, and the active stations. Some of the findings of this long-term experiment are: Not bad for a mirror. :^) |

The pictures taken with that Apollo 16 gold-plated camera are pretty cool - https://archive.org/details/AS16-123-JPG The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Likely neither, given launch and landing costs going forward. Early moon settlers will probably harvest for materials and recycle them. |

Likely neither, given launch and landing costs going forward. Early moon settlers will probably harvest for materials and recycle them. That would be a shame, given the historical significance of all the equipment left on the moon by the Apollo program. More and more lately I am seeing tidbits of news regarding the increasing estimates of the volume of water contained in moon rocks. It increasingly looks like a moon colony could be self sufficient in basic elements needed for a long term stay. Let'see what the Chinese find on the far side (not dark side) of the Moon. Tullio |

That was funny. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |
