I just spotted this little gem of news: http://news.sky.com/story/self-taught-rocket-scientist-mad-mike-hughes-announces-launch-over-california-ghost-town-11135430 Said gent has a few desires - anyone in the area might wish to wear their hard hat on Saturday just in case. Uhh....he didn't even get off the ground. A flat-earther finally tried to fly away. His rocket didn’t even ignite. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Thanks for the update Mark. We just have to wait for his next attempt at either a Darwin or an IgNobel.... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Thanks for the update Mark. We just have to wait for his next attempt at either a Darwin or an IgNobel.... If at first you don't succeed........................................poof. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Well, more power to him. If that's what he wants to do, fine. I wish him well in his hot-air balloon attempt, next. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Anyone who thinks that the Earth is flat, has never met a cat. If the Earth were flat, all the cats of the world would be hanging out at the edge, knocking things off. |

Well, he did it. Self-taught rocket-maker shoots himself 1,875 feet to prove Earth is flat . No word yet as to whether his observations changed his mind about the earth being round. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Why not? The Terminator did. No, not that I am aware of. But this guy apparently does have a group of flat earth believers following him....LOL. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

Well, he did it. He admitted he did not go high enough to prove that. He said that he wants to build a "Rockoon" a rocket that is carried into the atmosphere by a gas-filled balloon, then separated from the balloon and lit. This rocket would take Hughes about 68 miles up. |

I very strongly doubt he truly believes that the earth is flat, or that his rockets will somehow prove it. He was a daredevil and amateur rocket buff long before his first attempt. In 2016 he tried a GoFundMe to raise funds to build his own rocket and the fundraiser was a failure. Very conveniently, he then announced he was a flat-earth convert, and targeted the flat-earth community with his next fundraiser stating that his rocket would prove them correct. This was successful and he raised enough money for this launch. His rocket went about two-thirds the height of the Burj Kalifa tower in Dubai, so he could have had a much higher/longer view with far less risk if that was really what he was after. :^p |

If he really wants to know, a drive up Mt. Wilson about 100 miles from him on a nice clear day and a straight edge and he can prove it is round. The 5710 foot peak overlooks the Pacific Ocean from the South South East to the West with the shoreline about 25 miles away. From there with a straight edge it is obvious that the earth is not exactly flat. |

And there are 16 peaks in Californa that exceed 4000 meters (13,123 feet) elevation and 46 peaks exceed 3000 meters (9843 feet) elevation. Mount Whitney as seen from Mount Langley. No rocket needed. |
