Good day all.

I've been running Seti for year on several machines, all of a sudden on one of them I get this message every day:

"Suspicious spike results, host needs reboot or maintenance"

... with no helpful information as to what is causing the problem - rebooting does seem to make it go away, but I shouldn't have to do it every day.

Thoughts anyway?

That`s what i imagined.

It`s well known that the application for IGPU you are using in that PC is having issues under some circumstances.
Also i guess you are utilizing all CPU cores on your CPU which means hyper threading is active.
You should either disable HT or reserving 2 - 3 cores to provide enough resources to feed the GPU properly.

IGPU = integrated graphics processing unit.
So this device is integrated in your CPU.

HT = Hyper threading.
Your CPU has 6 physical cores but shows 12.
This means if you are running 12 instances on CPU there are no resources left to feed the GPU.

You can reserve cores by just going to Boinc manager advanced view clicking options and choose on multi processors use at most 50%.
First of all your processing times will be faster and you have enough resources left for other things.
That means your PC will do almost the same amount of work.

I don't see anything labled "Advanced".

Under options there's Computing Preferences and on that dialog is a tab labled "Computing" which has 2 edit boxes for setting a percentage - one for number of cpu's and one for cpu time...

... is this the right place? And if so should I set both or 50% or just one of them and if so which one?

Set the "Use at most - % of the CPU's" to 50%

Leave the" CPU Time" at 100%

PS if you can see these values you are already in "advanced view"

No.
You should see in tasks tab that only 7 instances are running.
6 on CPU and 1 on GPU.
