my #1 computer has stopped downloading new tasks as of 7-19 whereas #2 is right up to date at 7-23. #1 is running win 7 and #2 Win 10. I have had this happen before but I can't remember what I did to cure it. Needless to say I have already rebooted. Dave Nelson |

Nine times out of ten posting a "my computer isn't getting any tasks" message releases tasks - both your computers have contacted the servers today - this is the tenth time and only one of them has got any new work today :-( My first question is "Are you running any other projects, if so which projects?" There may be more questions to follow..... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Not a lot. On the computer in question I run my e-mail, scottrade account, watch debates, an occasional movie. The computers run 24/7 and seti has it to itself at least 14 hours a day. Dave Nelson |

I think it is usual about now to ask for you to post the first 30 or so lines from the Boinc event log on startup. |

You have lost me. I appreciate your attempts to help me but these thing simply exceed my level of computer knowledge. And really, should one have to know these things simply to run seti@home? Dave Nelson |

Open BOINC Manager. Press CTRL+SHIFT+E In the window that opens, scroll all the way up. Select the first line, and while holding down SHIFT scroll down to around the 30th line. Click Copy Selected. Open an answer window here, in it on the cursor press CTRL+V Something simpler: Open BOINC Manager (View->Advanced view) Activity Make sure these are set "run based on preferences". And could you please post the contents of the global_prefs.xml file and if it exists, the contents of the global_prefs_override.xml file. You can find these files in the BOINC data directory, which is a hidden directory, default at C:\Programdata\BOINC\ (just fill that in in Windows Explorer and go there). You can open the XML files with Notepad, no need to download a special program for it. Also, please don't open them in Internet Explorer when given the opportunity as this adds characters to the output. You can just open in Notepad, press CTRL+A, then CTRL+C (to select all and copy all) then use CTRL+V in an answer window here to post that. |

And really, should one have to know these things simply to run seti@home? No you should not need to, however there is something wrong with the way SETI@Home is working on one of your machines and to get help you need to do a little digging. I am sorry I did not give you instructions on how to post the log file contents, I usually wait to see if the person concerned knows how, then if not try and assist them. As you can see Ageless has listed the instructions. The log file will look a bit like this: 23/07/2017 23:29:41 | | Starting BOINC client version 7.6.33 for windows_x86_64 23/07/2017 23:29:42 | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task, sched_op_debug 23/07/2017 23:29:42 | | Libraries: libcurl/7.47.1 OpenSSL/1.0.2g zlib/1.2.8 23/07/2017 23:29:42 | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 23/07/2017 23:29:42 | | Running under account 23/07/2017 23:29:42 | | [error] Invalid account filename: statistics_print_.txt 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | CUDA: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 970 (driver version 381.65, CUDA version 8.0, compute capability 5.2, 4096MB, 3391MB available, 4045 GFLOPS peak) 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 970 (driver version 381.65, device version OpenCL 1.2 CUDA, 4096MB, 3391MB available, 4045 GFLOPS peak) 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | SETI@home | Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | Host name: 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | Processor: 4 AuthenticAMD AMD A8-3800 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics [Family 18 Model 1 Stepping 0] 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 htt pni cx16 popcnt syscall nx lm svm sse4a osvw ibs skinit wdt page1gb rdtscp 3dnowext 3dnow 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | OS: Microsoft Windows 10: Core x64 Edition, (10.00.15063.00) 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | Memory: 12.00 GB physical, 24.00 GB virtual 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | Disk: 744.76 GB total, 33.97 GB free 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | | Local time is UTC +1 hours 23/07/2017 23:29:45 | SETI@home | Found app_config.xml 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | Einstein@Home | URL http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/; Computer ID 6931290; resource share 1 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | SETI@home | URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 6851722; resource share 100 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | SETI@home Beta Test | URL http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/; Computer ID 73416; resource share 100 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | SETI@home | General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 13-Sep-2015 17:17:19) 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | SETI@home | Host location: none 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | SETI@home | General prefs: using your defaults 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | | Reading preferences override file 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | | Preferences: 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | | max memory usage when active: 6141.74MB 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | | max memory usage when idle: 11055.13MB 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | | max disk usage: 34.48GB 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | | max CPUs used: 2 23/07/2017 23:29:46 | | (to change preferences, visit a project web site or select Preferences in the Manager) 23/07/2017 23:29:48 | | Using proxy info from GUI 23/07/2017 23:29:48 | SETI@home | [sched_op] Starting scheduler request 23/07/2017 23:29:48 | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 23/07/2017 23:29:48 | SETI@home | Requesting new tasks for NVIDIA GPU 23/07/2017 23:29:48 | SETI@home | [sched_op] CPU work request: 0.00 seconds; 0.00 devices 23/07/2017 23:29:48 | SETI@home | [sched_op] NVIDIA GPU work request: 231797.30 seconds; 0.00 devices 23/07/2017 23:29:50 | SETI@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 23/07/2017 23:29:50 | SETI@home | [sched_op] Server version 707 23/07/2017 23:29:50 | SETI@home | Not sending work - last request too recent: 77 sec 23/07/2017 23:29:50 | SETI@home | Project requested delay of 303 seconds 23/07/2017 23:29:50 | SETI@home | [sched_op] Deferring communication for 00:05:03 23/07/2017 23:29:50 | SETI@home | [sched_op] Reason: requested by project Obviously this is mine so yours will be a bit different. |

Problem solved. I have to leave for a doctor appointment now but I'll tell you the whole thrilling tale when I get back. Dave Nelson |
