I guess it will be a long wait then. Well there are reports of other Windows "apps" failing to start properly and if MS finds the problem then it may be cured in a future update. For those that want the screensaver, rollback to the Anniversary update, that is what I did on my tablet that had no sound. ID: 1861440 ·  |

BOINC SCREEN SAVER "Partial Fix" As many know, the newest Win 10 'affront', i.e. 'program update'', dumped on many Windows Users has rendered the lovely BOINC screen saver inoperative. Some of us use it, others do not. I love its 'look' and that I always receive great comments on it from visitors to my house. What I found that revives it, sort of, is to go to the BOINC program folder, find boincscr.exe, right-click it, and 'Create a shortcut' to put on your desktop. Then disable any Windows, or other screen saver you may be using. Now, if you click the shortcut you will see the BOINC screen saver, and you can maximize the box it appears in. Here is what will happen. The BOINC screen will cycle thru out all the 'text' type screens, as it usually does, but will NOT show the lovely graphic 'noise' screen. :( Well, its something, anyway! :) To me, it's better than anything Windows offers. There is another very SERIOUS problem I found having to do with auto backups made hourly to a USB stick. I published details in the "Windows 10 Yay or Nay" group. Look for it? Stay here on Earth. Boinc is running but Boinc Screen Saver will not run. Other Screen Savers working correctly. Latest Nvidia Drivers 381.** on desktop. Intel drivers on Laptop. Same problem on both. ID: 1861551 · |

Boinc is running but Boinc Screen Saver will not run. Other Screen Savers working correctly. Saturday April 15 2017, 5:01 AM THANK YOU for posting !! I had not touched any drivers and wondered if they would FIX the problem with BOINC. At first, when I activated boincscr.exe manually, it worked except the 'noise graphic' wouldn't come on, just the rotating screens. After several hours, for some reason, they stopped. :( Now all I see is the 'timelines,' i.e., the 'progress lines' you see, but not the BOINC logo and the text about WHO is running SETI. So, back to the CRUMMY Windows, saver. YUCH !! I LOVE the BOINCscreen saver. :) Saturday April 15 2017, 5:33 AM Oops, guess what ?? My BOINC screen saver is now WOKING again, all rotating screens EXCEPT for the big colorful 'noise box.' :) For some reason, when I went into the BOINC folder, and double-clicked the boinscr.exe file directly, it started working. The link I had on the desktop had stopped woking but now works again. Strange, huh? I didn't DO anything. I dunno what happened ?? Oh well, I will just enjoy what I have and HOPE that the SETI people will FIX the problem with BOINC and the new version of Win 10. Stay here on Earth. It's the only planet with DARK CHOCOLATE !! I went through this problem also. BOINC.scr is still set as the screensaver under Personalize Lock Screen etc. after Creators Update went on, but it will not engage on Preview there or after the 5 minute time-out. BOINC.SCR will no longer launch on this update. Bubbles and the other internal screensavers work fine. Also, the NVIDIA GPU would not be detected or run in SETI@HOME until after I Disable Game Mode and Reboot. ID: 1861819 · |

I went through this problem also. NVIDEA is, IMHO, the BEST graphics card there is. My new Win 10 came with an AMD Radeon R5200 Graphics Processor. :( I have created a desktop shortcut to boincscr.exe on my desktop, and switched OFF the Windows screen saver. When I activate BOINC I get the rotaing BOINC screens, with the exception of the MAIN one. I cannot get the beautiful, and muti-colored "noise box" screem. :) This is my FAV and always gets MANY good comments from visitors. I run the BOINC I have, sans the noise screen when I leave my PC. When I return, I minimize it to my taskbar. It is better than nothing. I HOPE THE SETI PEOPLE will FIX this problem in the M$ Creators Update that screwed everything up. I HOPE THE SETI PEOPLE will FIX this problem in the M$ Creators Update that screwed everything up. I believe the problem lies in the Boinc Screensaver, so not a Seti@Home problem. It is really down to MS to fix the problem. As Boinc development is now a totally volunteer project it is unlikely that it will be fixed anytime soon. The best thing to do is as MS advise, if there are any problems with any programs or apps, roll back to the previous version of Windows. I did that for my tablet which the update broke the sound on. I HOPE THE SETI PEOPLE will FIX this problem in the M$ Creators Update that screwed everything up. I am afraid to 'roll back.' My new Win 10 was 2 weeks old. I ran into a myriad of problems trying to find out HOW Win 10 works, compared to Win XP and 7. It was a nightmare. It took me a full week to get my screen set up as it had been on 7, and all my apps, about 16 of them, working again. After a few days of MORE trouble, The newest M$ update happened and it set me back again. I had no clue WHY BOINC stopped working, but now I do. After all the above, 'rolling back, is something I have no clue how to do, and worry, since M$ takes over my PC whenever it feels like it, how do I know the 'roll back' would hold? M$ may force a 'roll forward.' I feel I no longer have control over the PC I bought and paid for. Thank you for your kind & thoughtful suggestion, but I'm thru with this Win 10 for awhile. I feel like slamming it with a hammer. :) Stay here on Earth. It's the only planet with DARK CHOCOLATE !! Microsoft has issued an update to the Creator's Build https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4016240 (OS Build 15063.250) The original problem with the BOINC screensaver remains, the symptoms are the same. The latest Microsoft Win 10 patch DOES NOT fix the problem. Helping where I can. Hindering everywhere else. ID: 1863971 · |

Boinc loads the screensaver and the Seti Screensaver is visible for less than a second. Then the screensaver stops execution disappears and waits another time cycle before trying again. Everything seems to work other than the screensaver will not stay active. Latest Boinc update was fine until Win 10 updates of 5/12/17... Does anyone have any ideas that I may have overlooked? This thread and some others explain that the Windows 10 Creator update broke the BOINC screensaver, not just SETI@Home but all BOINC project screensavers. There is nothing you have overlooked, until MS fix it, there are two things you can do. 1 Rollback to the previous version of Windows 10 ( this is what MS advise). You will get the screensaver back. 2 Run BOINC without the screensaver. ID: 1867666 · |

Hello all, and thanks for posting about this issue. I reverted the "Creators" update several weeks ago upon learning it was the culprit. But after the latest forced update, I'm letting it stay. Hello all, and thanks for posting about this issue. I reverted the "Creators" update several weeks ago upon learning it was the culprit. But after the latest forced update, I'm letting it stay. They've broken my spirit again. I would think the only way to find out is look at the threads here and possibly at the BOINC dev site and see if someone posts when MS fix the problem. As this of course only affects users running the Windows 10 Creators update who also run the screensaver, it may be a while. I run Win 10 Creators on all my machines, but haven't used the screensaver in many years. ID: 1867923 · |
