Hi,

I have an old PowerMac G5 (dual processors) which I put back in service a couple of days ago and I thought I'd add it to my seti@home account. I am running OSX 10.4.11 and Boinc 6.12.35. I can't seem to get tasks for this machine (all my intel-based boxes work just fine) I have tried multiple reinstalls of Boinc (deleting all the library files that have to be removed manually), but without success. The event log looks like this:

Sending scheduler request: To fetch work
Requesting new tasks for CPU
Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
No tasks sent
This computer has finished a daily quota of 1 tasks

Any assistance much appreciated.

Two things cross my mind....
First, you have a number of tasks that appear to be running - this often happens after reporting here that you can't get any tasks!
Second, by continually removing and re-installing BOINC you may have prevented the servers from establishing the required pattern of operation for your computer.

All your tasks err with process got signal 10.
Signal 10 is Bus Error.

A fatal failure in the execution of a machine language instruction resulting from the processor detecting an anomalous condition on its bus. Such conditions include invalid address alignment (accessing a multi-byte number at an odd address), accessing a physical address that
does not correspond to any device, or some other device-specific hardware error. A bus error triggers a processor-level exception which Unix
translates into a "SIGBUS" signal which, if not caught, will terminate the current process.

In other words, the PowerPC application may be written incorrectly, or has instructions that the PowerPC CPU cannot address correctly.
It's not worth it to try to debug this, because hardly anyone uses this CPU. Checking the CPU List here at Seti, it seems there are only 19 PowerMac7,2s in use, aside from 24 PowerMac11,2s, 24 PowerMac7,3s and 18 PowerMac10,1s. So in total less than 100 hosts.

What we can't see from that list is if those return correct results, it's just a list based on peak CPU speed.

My own G5's still happily crunching SETI@home v8 and occasionally AstroPulse v7. Its results are rarely invalidated, but it often has to wait a month or two before they are validated because the much faster machines with which it's paired either don't process them in time or don't come back at all. My G5's running Mac OS 10.5.8.
