Yes, trees can be replanted and house damage can be repaired, but a kitty cannot be replaced.
I managed to drag the large branches off of the roof, and it does not look like they damaged the roof deck.
I'll be pretty busy for a couple of weeks picking up the mess, but I did take some pics this morning.
Last time I tried photobucket, it was worthless, too clogged up with pushed ads to use.
Maybe if I can find a different picture sharing service...........................

It was not an official tornado when it tore through my place, but a few minutes later, it was.
If it had started to form a few minutes earlier, it could have been at full strength when it tore through here, and things could have been a lot worse.

Glad you and your furry ones are okay, Mark. Very sad to hear about the damage that has been done, and hope that the power supply can be secured with no disruption to you and your neighbours.

This kitty lovin' man is dragging his tail a bit.
I spent 10 hours (less about an hour in cooling down/rest breaks) taking care of the storm induced carnage in kittyland.

I don't have a chainsaw. I used my trusty 30" Sandvick buck saw that I bought over 30 years ago. The blade is almost as sharp as new. I was able to deal with everything that the wind had torn down and tossed asunder. Biggest limbs were about 6" diameter, but I only had to make a few cuts at that width to get them cut down to pieces that I could wrestle over to and hoist on top of my brush pile. Which increased dramatically in size today. Many of the limbs that were 'only' a couple of inches in diameter were dragged or carried out to my front ditch, where the town will come with their chipper on Monday to pick them up. Between my debris and the neighbor's, there is almost 200 feet of ditch filled with tree limbs.

The pedometer I keep in my pocket says that I put on 11.6 miles trudging back and forth today hauling bits and pieces of formerly happy trees around. Between that and using the bucksaw, it was quite a workout! And I suspect I am gonna be a bit stiff and sore tomorrow. I took a couple of ibuprofen and a warm bath, so I am looking and feeling much better than I was a couple of hours ago at least.

Oh, and AccuWeather says in a couple of hours I have more coming my way.......
Lest anybody think I am making this up. As 'somebody' did last night.
I hope the radar looks a little less angry by the time it gets here.

I am doing a bit better now that the mess is mostly dealt with.

Oh, and I did take just a few minutes out of cleanup duty to plant 3 'Blue Moon' bee balm plants that came in the mail whilst I was working. They are supposed to attract bees, butterflies, and birds.
So, that gave me at least a little bright spot in my day.

Tomorrow, I'll probably start thinking about what to plant in place of that big old pine tree.
Thinking about maybe a blue spruce or two.

I'm really sorry to hear about all that tree damage. We cut down a large Pin Oak, and a Sugar Maple that was hanging over the house because we were worried about what might happen. I'm a tree lover, so it was hard to do that.

I think of evergreen trees like pines as resilient to windy weather, but they do grow rather fast and I imagine that makes their branches vulnerable.

Blue spruces get big, but are slower growing and more dense. I'd like to get one of those and a Ginkgo, which is deciduous, but very hardy and sturdy, and has lovely fan shaped leaves that turn yellow in the Fall.

Might go out looking for a young blue spruce to plant this morning. Might make me feel a bit better seeing something new growing next to the stump of the fallen one.

I'm probably gonna need some kind of chopping tool and maybe an axe to deal with digging a hole close to the stump for a new arrival. Shall be a lot of roots to deal with. My shovel alone just ain't gonna be a big enough hammer.

Fleet Farm opens in an hour. That's where I got the Cathedral Elm tree I planted in the back a couple of weeks ago. Didn't notice if they had any pines, as I was not looking for one at the time. But, I know they will have some proper implements of destruction for digging the hole.

Do stumps with good root systems re-sprout in time - just a thought?

Some deciduous trees will sprout new growth from a stump or cut off trunk.
Have never seen a conifer do that however.

Just got back from Fleet Farm. Got a 2-1/2 foot Colorado Spruce and an axe for the roots.
Time to go diggin'.

Hmmm.....
The new trees are all doing well. Have had a good amount of rain here lately, so that is helping them to get established.
Same for the 14 hosta plants I put in a couple of weeks ago. They don't seem to be doing much growing yet, but look pretty perky. 'Cept for one that got trampled by some little urchins that keep trespassing on my lot from the baseball diamond next door.

And, I got a bottle of the Demeter 'Kitten Fur' cologne spray. I like it.

So, now I am a blond that smells like a kitten...................LOL.
