Sheesh! Can't I have a minute to show off my little raccoon chachki without everyone trying to one-up me? ;-)

Sorry......you said you wished there was one with a different pose.
The kitties were just trying to help.

Meowsigh.

I meant one that was similar but not exactly the same, so that I could have both a salt shaker and a pepper shaker. I thought that would be clear. Evidently I was wrong. (Happens from time to time.)

But thanks anyway.

I shall endeavor to be more specific from now on.

Speaking of Walmart and raccoons, I can't figure out why their giant fuzzy raccoon head doesn't have any ears. I'd have bought one if it did. (I couldn't find a picture. The ones on their website are not the ones I saw in the store.)

And a few more.

Forgive the kitties now?
Meow? Meow meow?

My new hairy friend is working out well for me,she really minds but as a young dog likes to get in trouble. LOL
she is very sweet and doesn't try to byte anyone.
I still have to learn all her body movements to know to take her out for a walk.
I'm getting there though after checking the carpet. LOL.
Just put my shoes on and she is sitting on the scooter read to go. LOL
Should have done this a year ago already.

Friends adopted three young (very young) dogs.
The boys were called "Bernard" (or Bernie for short) and "Rubble", with the girl being called "Tee" (short for something much longer). Great fun calling them back in the park "Bernard Tee Rubble", and even more fun when written down "Bernie TRubble" - thy were a great bunch, all noses and tails with added fox and cow poo!

Posting this in the raccoon and the cat thread, as there are both in this cute video.
Glad the raccoon was a friendly one.
And mama kitty collects her little wayward one.
Somebody else's critter feeding dish.

Meow!

We had a kitty on the baseball diamond, now we have a squirrel scoring a touchdown!
"Louisville, KY (WBAY) - You could say the game between Louisville and Kent State got interesting on Saturday.

Louisville was up 21-0 when a furry friend wanted its time to shine.

A squirrel is seen moving quickly down the field and had no plans on stopping until scoring the "touchdown." It made a 42-yard dash to the end zone.

The crowd in Papa John's Stadium went wild as commentators gave a play-by-play of the great play."

Moose on the loose.
This morning a stressed moose came into central Gothenburg (Sweden not Nebraska).

That's quite unusual but I have seen one running on the parking lot just outside where I live.
And some have them very close to home:)

Floor-cleaning raccoons surprise diners at Mexican cafe

It's a good thing I wasn't there. I'd have fed them from my plate. :-(

I have been teaching the raccoon kits to stand on their hind legs on verbal and gestural command. Standing on their hind legs is a behavior raccoons do naturally when they are curious about something or when they are trying to see something that is out of their field of view.

Raccoons do not stand up on their hind legs frequently enough for me to reinforce the entire behavior, so I have had to shape and reinforce the behavior that I want in five steps:

1. nose up on verbal and gestural command, visually following a peanut

2. nose and one paw up on verbal and gestural command, visually following a peanut

3. nose and two paws a little up on verbal and gestural command, visually following a peanut

4. full hind leg stand on verbal and gestural command, visually following a peanut

5. full hind leg stand on verbal and gestural command without seeing a peanut

Walnut Baily is on step 4 and he got there in two nights. He is a boy, by the way. It is pretty easy to tell the sex of a raccoon when a raccoon is standing on hind legs

Brazilnut Bjorn got to step 4 in three nights. He is also a boy.

Peanut, the mama, is barely at step 4, as of tonight.

Hazelnut Tanooki has been keeping her distance. She (I am assuming she is a "she") rarely comes out from under the deck when I am sitting on the back porch step. She is at step - - -1. I am simply reinforcing her for showing herself! Before I can train her to stand on her hind legs, she needs to be comfortable standing close to me on four paws. If she pokes her head out from under the deck, I toss her a peanut.

Macademia Bobo is super shy. So far he has trained me to feed him peanuts under the deck!

P.S. My avatar is Bravesy, a raccoon kit from many litters ago. This is what raccoon kits look like when they stand on their hind legs.

My rabbits do that sort of thing too, occasionally. It's called periscoping.
