How about Bo? Yes. That's even better. Then you doesn't have to confuse the raccoon with my brother Bo, Bo Diddley and Bo Dereck:) |

Lots of entries. I might have to have Eric simply draw names, as there are already too many good raccoon names here! |

Waschbär:) Here we call them raccoons Tvättbjörn for the same reason as Germans do. In Finland Pesukarhu also for the same reason. Oh. Björn and Karhu are nice names. No need to wash your hand. Last night I was sitting on a porch step feeding Peanut and her babies. Peanut was right at my feet most of the time. Her babies were behind her, except for one exceptionally brave kit who sometimes stood right next to mama. At one point, Peanut got thirsty and went to the water bowl, which was across from me and slightly behind me. In doing so she inadvertently placed me between herself and her babies. When she realized that I was between her and her babies, Peanut gave me a particularly long,, low, evil warning growl. It did not matter that I hadn't moved and that SHE was the one who had accidentally placed me between herself and her babies! (Raccoons are not very good at accepting responsibility.) It also did not matter that she and I were "friends". Well... as much as one can be friends with a wild animal. At that moment in time, I was a threat to her babies and Peanut made sure I knew that she was keeping an eye on me. From now on though, I'm going to place the water dish in front of me so that Peanut has no reason to go behind me. Live and learn... |
