You've really got to admire her tool use. I don't know what evolutionary pressure made raccoons, or raccoon ancestors, so darn smart. Makes me wonder.... Given their excellent problem solving abilities, it is no surprise that raccoons tend to do well wherever they live. and this is for my brother George. |

Latest news, trash pandas have been breaking into peoples homes and having a bubble party... I agree. :-( The file was way too big. I'd recommend just posting a link next time. ~Sue~ ![]() |

Finn Finn's story prompted more than 120,000 people to sign a petition calling for serving animals to have the same rights as officers. Yes. Why not? Like Sergeant Stubby. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergeant_Stubby And Chips, Kaiser, Nemo and Smoky of course. Arf arf:) |

I was thinking about going to the optometrist soon, and getting a NEW prescription(funds permitting of course) for glasses, these frames in Green are $9, the other two are $29ea... What do you think? Before you go off on another medical adventure and expense, what ever happened with the last one? Going back in this thread to the beginning of this month - Vic, have you had your mini-op, or did that get knocked to one side by "other events" in your life? Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Rob, I think Vic is being economical with the truth. A very kind benefactor offered Vic $200 cash to pay for his transport to and from the hospital. He refused to accept it. It was also pointed out to him that there were also various free community transport schemes in his area, he decided not to use them. He doesn't have to wait for his op, he chooses to. Well he did say the op will be performed under general anaesthetic, which requires you to be collected personally. Certainly has meant that for me on two occasion, and no taxis are not normally advised as they want to make sure you have help all the way back home. It is up to you to decide what you wish to believe. |

I can understand Vic wanting to be transported to and from the hospital by someone he knows rather than some anonymous "taxi driver". As to discharge and aftercare - It must certainly be a concern with him living on his own, and not enjoying the "best of general health", with numerous other ailments to consider, including respiratory issues, none of which help with the recovery process. Part of me is intrigued by the choice of a general anesthetic for a procedure that can be don under a local with general sedation. For the recovery process there is one major milestone - stopping passing blood, until bleeding has stopped there is no release, and that really depends on the individual. There is nothing uncommon about the covering letter from the hospital saying you need a lift by a friend/relative - This is based on the assumption that that person will make sure you get home "in one piece", and will have someone with you for the following day or so. Do make sure that your sister-in-law knows what time to call before setting out to pick you up, and don't be too shocked and annoyed if they keep you in longer than you would desire, particularly after a general anesthetic as they need to know you are well enough to cope at home. One comment about your pain management before you go in for the op - over the years (forty plus) I've suffered kidney pains I have found it far better to go for a "quick hit" first thing in the morning rather than a progressive dulling. You might find it more effective to hit the pain hard with a normal (quick) release dose soon after you get up, maybe of an NSAID rather than Tylenol. Then move onto your slow release dose later in the day. This is because kidney pain is frequently caused by spasming in the small tubes of the kidney, and hitting hard stops the spasms, then the slow release keeps it under control, whereas the slow release doesn't stop the spasms. I do however realise that you have arthritis pain, which needs the slow release control - a bit of a cleft stick :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

The relative/friend is not only supposed to be able to watch over for a period of time but also make sure that prescriptions are bought and meds taken those first hours. If something isn't right they can call the DR or 911. In the old days that is why you spent the night in the hospital, but insurance won't cover it anymore. ![]() |
