Edit: You are obviously unaware of what's happening in Paris and London these days. I suspect this is what he thinks is happening over there and his belief is equally valid. It is written on the net ... |

Without reading your last link, I'll tell you it isn't true. So I won't bother with the others they are probably just as biased. The Cockneys are not fleeing they had already left. Cockneys have been moving out of the East End since the end of WW2. Because large parts were bombed, remember the Blitz, or haven't you studied History, and the remainder was bulldozed. Initially to places like Dagenham, Ford had a big plant there, now it's fairly small just makes engines. Then have also got better educated, trained and therefore got better jobs and moved to the suburbs, like Essex, taking their wives and girlfriends with them. (google Essex Girls) Even 10 - 15 years ago you would have had trouble finding a true Cockney in Newham. And so the Muslim immigrants have been moving there because it is cheap, by London standards. And if you hadn't noticed immigrants tend to cluster together until about the 3rd generation when they become assimilated. |

Hashtag he’s your president. Will you ever accept the election results? You were so worried this side of the isle was not going to accept if that felon, hillary won the election, and now you're not accepting the fact that SHE LOST. I'm pretty sure in a separate discussion in this same thread, I told JaundicedEye that I accept the election results, I see no reason to change the voting system, and as an added bonus, I think the recount is a waste of time and money. I do find it curious your obsession into turning the topic into being about a refusal to accept Trump as President. Do you think you're being clever or do you think readers are questioning your grasp on reality when you keep repeating false claims in a discussion? (Let me guess, you'll try to turn that question around, too?) This is the problem with you guys (and the media.) You guys take everything Trump says so literally. Most Americans don't. Most *thinking* Americans understand that when a *normal* person talks, a *normal* person says things that are not 100% letter for letter absolutely perfectly correct. You guys (and the media) like to focus in on the letters that aren't 100% absolutely perfectly correct and come to the conclusion everything else said must, therefore, be wrong. And when felons like hilary say things things that are 100% upside down, incorrect, hypocritically flipped and outright degrading and degenerating, you defend her. You're so right! I have a reputation on these forums for defending Hillary and pouring over every word Trump says, looking for ways to make sure everything he says is 100% perfect. You're so smart, you're not at all losing grasp on reality. Thanks for answering the question. Now we know that you do not base your position in observable facts but in the continuing post-truth media you obviously get your information from. Well, I have to hand it to you. You gave perfect examples of post-truth on websites. Makes me wonder if you can spot post-truth or if you thought you were being smart and gave me websites that somehow spoke the actual truth? |

Without reading your last link, I'll tell you it isn't true. So I won't bother with the others they are probably just as biased. NYC's Lower East Side was the equivalent to London's East End, into which successive waves of migrants would initially settle, only to be displaced for similar reasons by the next wave, and each time it happened (Germans, Italians, Irish, East Europeans, Hispanics) there'd be similar hand-wringing about how the area is suddenly changing from some romanticized version of its former glory. I recall similar articles in the 90s being written about Birmingham ("Christmas has been canceled" and similar bunk); if you look at news articles from far enough back you'll find similar things said about Irish laborers that migrated to England to build the canal system. Trump and some of his supporters are not the only xenophobes in the world, though finding others with similar beliefs does not remove the stain of prejudice. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

Sadly, ignoring post-truth doesn't make it go away, nor does repeating it make it more true. |

So the President-Elect has said that former Marine Corps General(former because he infuriated King Obama) James 'Mad Dog' Mattis as SecDef. That should give some on the world scene 'furiously to think'............."::D. A quote from Mad Dog.........."It’s not popularity -- with all the favoritism that comes with trying to be a popular person as a leader. That’s a road to failure," Mattis said. "But affection that you create in a unit, an affection so strong that the troops will stick by one another and carry out the mission even in peril." Too bad Obama and the Dims didn't listen to that one........... Popularity Scorecard Republican President Republican Vice-President Republican Majority in the Senate Republican Majority in the House(largest in over half a century) Republican Governors in 38 of 50 States(Majority) Republican Majority in 36 State Legislatures 'Popularity', like stupidity, is it's own reward. Yeah, I get my information from equally reliable sources like The National Enquirer. Probably has the same advertisements too. I thought after the US Elections we discovered that polls can't be trusted? Would this be a case for finding news articles that already agree with our world view so we immediately believe them without much critical thought? Surely you're familiar with confirmation bias. TFTFY. Sadly, ignoring *the truth* doesn't make it go away. The fact that you refer to an unreliable poll as *the truth* is very telling. Lends more credence to the idea that some people in the world are clinging to post-truth as if it were real truth as much as they can. |

1. I think that this term "post-truth" is meaningless and weak, at best. It seems a poor excuse at thoughtful discourse and serves only to lable anyone who disagrees. 2. I am more conservative than liberal and a bit annoyed at feeling dumped into the liberal bucket by the insinuation that the non-acceptance of mysticism is "hate speech". |
