The Dam was completed in 1978, and I am sure fully complied with all the relevant safety standards prevalent at the time. Fast forward nearly 50 years to the 21st Century, and it is reasonable to query whether it would pass muster today. Once the immediate emergency is over, serious questions need to be asked, and if found necessary, remedial and modernisation work should be funded to be carried out. From what I've read, that is 1968, not 1978, at least according to the wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oroville_Dam Since its completion in 1968, the Oroville Dam has allocated the flow of the Feather River from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta into the State Water Project's California Aqueduct, which provides a major supply of water for irrigation in the San Joaquin Valley as well as municipal and industrial water supplies to coastal Southern California, and has prevented large amounts of flood damage to the area – more than $1.3 billion between the years of 1987 and 1999. The family, but probably his daughter, wrote an obituary saying what they really thought about Leslie Ray Charping, of Galveston, Texas. 'Relieved' family publishes honest obituary for 'evil' Texas man “Leslie was surprisingly intelligent, however he lacked ambition and motivation to do anything more than being reckless, wasteful, squandering the family savings and fantasizing about get rich quick schemes,†|

From what I've read, that is 1968, not 1978, at least according to the wikipedia. So far the upper part of the main spillway has hung together, seems $200 million is needed for repairs and for paving & repairing the emergency spillway. 50' is all they think they need to weather the next storm, batten down the hatches, we're in for a ride. I think the report from 12 years ago that this would happen isn't going to be able to be brushed aside. If anyone from then still has a job, they don't anymore. <ed>PS Evacuation order lifted |

I was going to use My Canon 9950F flatbed scanner, found out My scanner won't scan, gave Me an error of 2,175,0, turns out My "6' usb a b cable" has gone bad, so until the new cable arrives, the scanner is out of action. The driver finds the scanner and all, but I get that error, I was able to scan once, in between a bunch of 2,175,0 errors, so yeah My cable is worn out. Very frustrating. Since a tech at Canon had Me going in circles. Needless to say $3.45 later and a new cable is ordered. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

My "6' usb a b cable" has gone bad That's the first time I've ever heard of a cable wearing out. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

My "6' usb a-b cable" has gone bad I've had several go bad, I've replaced My camera cable several times, this is the 1st time for My Canon 9950F flatbed scanner, this is a cable that plugs into usb port on the back of the motherboard at the back of My PC. I've almost never had any internal cables go bad, but this is an external usb cable, they get bent a lot when they are moved around to charge a smart phone or to upload pics, one of these days I'll need a new usb-par printer cable, but not today. I used to have replace mice when their cables would go bad, today My mouse is wireless, I just recharge the batteries. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! I knew which cable you were talking about, but that's still a first for me. I guess if you do flex them around enough, they could have some wear and tear. I once helped a friend install fiber optic cable in a factory, and he told me to be very careful not to kink it! The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Sorry. :( Don't be sorry. I didn't mean any negativity. You just taught me to be extra careful when I vacuum behind my computer stuff, now. ;~) The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Sorry. :( Yeah, the cable being broken, means My copy machine is broke. So no copying My ID's or the latest rent bill, so that I can get an Liheap check. At least the application came in a reusable manila envelope, the envelope was free. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

tRump has declared the Oroville dam to be a Federal Disaster area, so Federal funds can be released promptly, and the water level is at 887', still 37' higher than what is desired, hopefully the water will be down to or lower than 850' by Friday. Oh and the evacuation order has been rescinded. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/14/us/california-oroville-dam-spillway-failure/index.html "We are feeling positive," said Al Duncan, spokesman for the response team. My "6' usb a-b cable" has gone bad To stop the need to keep unplugging and re-plugging in USB cables, get a USB hub. A powered one is best. NewEgg -USB hubs Except for an external HDD, which has Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 and all the programs I use install files and all drivers on, which I plug into the front USB socket of appropriate recalcitrant computer when needed, I cannot remember the last time I had to fight the knotted cables at back of a computer. |

My "6' usb a-b cable" has gone bad My current desk is a bit crowded, so no hub, I've got 3 or so empty ports back there. But then the motherboard is an X79 ASUS Rampage IV Extreme. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

I usually find that cables fail 99.95% of the time because some people keep wanting to pull them out by the cable and not the socket section itself. Cheers. |
