In my view national emblems and anthems should not be used at sporting events unless it is a international competition. That separation has never been. Even the Greeks and their Olympic games was in many ways political. Anthems are very political. Here Zlatan sang our national anthem that doesn't mention any country at all but he changed the last lyric line. "I want to live, I want to die in the North" to "I want to live, I want to die in Sweden" Zlatan Ibrahimović. My view is that we are the freest nation on Earth, That's great that you can pick and choose areas where you believe you are freer than us. How about taking my comments within context of the discussion? Nah, let's just take exception to individual statements and disregard the context with which they're given! /s That is to say: do you believe a symbol or gesture should be held in higher regard than one's right to self expression and even protest? |

Let's talk about the real issues here: Actions have consequences, legal or not. What do you think is appropriate? If you were an employer would you tolerate this in your workplace ? Taking appropriate actions might just change the look of the NFL--what do you say ? In this case are we Politically Correct, Politically Incorrect or just plain chicken and hypocritical ?? |

Let's talk about the real issues here: My customers would strenuously object. But my customers include the families of 5 recipients of the Medal of Honor. I might not be a good example. I can see how many places would not want the potential for the firestorm of bad publicity on social media. It could close their business. As we all know local community standards vary across the USA. What might be acceptable in NYC or SFO may not be in Podunk Hollow. |

+1 As Ozzfan stated, everyone has the right of self expression & to protest as those rights were earned the hard way. To see one person's opinion lambasted as b***s*** & by a teacher no less, speaks volumes. |

Oh, if they are never off the clock then that is 24hr employment and that is illegal How many little people working for the xyz co get fired for damaging the company's reputation on social media? Say posting racist comments and in some other post saying who they work for? and having the company friended? you answered you own comment there . A sportsman goes to a bar and gets drunk pees on the bar and it get plastered all over social media . Even thou they are on there time they get fired. Why are they fired if they are on there own time .....because big money players are never really off the clock till they retire . The excuse is they bring the code into disrepute all B/S off cause |

A vet that is homeless and has to beg for food !!!! As a veteran, this statement shows me how LITTLE you know about our military, are Veteran's Affairs and our welfare system really is that what you got from what I posted . Guess you need to read the sign he is holding it says he is homeless and will work for food So he's either a lier or a crim or he is actually homeless I seem to remember that your vets where not being looked after when they came back from Iraq and Obama did something to change it . But only after it hit the news . |

Here in Canada there are ex-service people who go out to the streets at night looking for destitute vets' who have fallen on hard times. It is a big issue up here, as it should be. |

If a homeless vet is standing on a street corner begging here in the U.S., it's a choice he/she made. A *bad* choice. A choice designed to take advantage of others. A choice that imposes on those around him/her. A *selfish* choice. And a choice made by some people which is by all definitions, fraud. Fraud which is fully supported by our supreme court because a majority of those knuckleheads said it violates a person's right to LIE. Really hope you don't end up on the streets , or maybe if you did your attitiude towards them might change slightly . Everyone makes choices maybe they made the right choice but circumstances made them homeless , every case is different . Ever 4t about that or are you just a a-hole ? Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

This addresses nothing of what I said. Don't blame it on the teacher. You like to use that ATTACK. Number one, I don't teach history or politics. Number two, you attempt to absolve yourself of any responsibility as a "student". Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

sarge that is one hell of a leap . It is no leap. What is in the mind of a person when they pledge the flag? What is in the mind of a person when they rise and sing the national anthem? Are they thinking of their country? Any of the good? Any of the bad? What is in the mind of a person when, at church, reciting liturgy or singing hymns? Are they thinking of God? Or are they performing things by rote? Trying to make sure they look good and proper in front of their peers? Has anybody read the article from ESPN of why we have the national anthem at sporting events? I browsed parts of it. I'll bet some of the reasons no longer apply or or were bad reasons in the first place. Again: what place does singing the national anthem have at sporting events??? And if it has a place, then why isn't it required at every entertainment event? Or reciting the pledge to the flag? Or either of these whenever 2 US citizens have gathered??? Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |
