http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2016/08/12/us-air-forces-plan-to-improve-radio-communications-plasma-bomb-atmosphere.html So this raising the question, it may improve long distance radio signals but how will it affect ground based receivers that we use? Will it increase the amount of 'noise' that we usually see making it that much more difficult to analyse the data? |

By releasing plasma bombs into the atmosphere, the Air Force would increase the quantity of ions in the layer of the atmosphere known as the ionosphere, which starts at an altitude of approximately 37 miles. Radio waves interact with this layer when they travel, so modifying it can have a significant effect on radio communications. As a side effect, the Air Force also notes that this dense ion layer also will neutralize incoming solar storms, protecting sensitive networks such as GPS from disruption. Looks like a big scientifical improvement to me! rOZZ Music Pictures |
