Apparently I was updated to v8 automatically. Got two BSoD since. Seti only comes on after inactivity, and the BSoD happened when I moved the mouse and the WU got suspended again. It went by so fast I couldn't read what it says, and I'm not about to try and recreate the problem. Two days of lost work is quite enough. That's what beta testing is for. Seti runs on a Gigabyte GTX 750Ti (GV-N75TOC-2GI) on Windows 7 64-bit. |

It went by so fast I couldn't read what it says, and I'm not about to try and recreate the problem. Which will make it next to impossible for people to help you with the fault that you- and it would appear from the lack of similar issues over the last few months it's only you- are experiencing. Add to that your computers are hidden so people can't check your system details or any of the results you have returned to see if there's anything of use there either. Grant Darwin NT |

No problem, Grant. I'll just switch to another project and leave Seti on Astropulse only. Thank you for taking the time and try to help. |

Right click on my computer, then click on properties. Then Advanced/Startup & Recover/settings. In System Failure, uncheck automatically restart. System then won't restart on BSOD. |

If "Write an event to the system log" is already checked, wouldn't there already be information saved from both BSoDs for Mog to view or copy/paste here? |

I forgot about NirSoft. They have some really helpful software. I'm surprised that SysInternals doesn't have something like that. |

Awesome, never knew things like this software exist. Now, does this mean anything to any of you? 031016-26535-01.dmp 2016/03/10 21:59:27 CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION 0x000000f4 00000000`00000003 fffffa80`0bfe1b10 fffffa80`0bfe1df0 fffff800`03186780 ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+74080 NT Kernel & System Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Microsoft Corporation 6.1.7601.19160 (win7sp1_gdr.160211-0600) x64 ntoskrnl.exe+74080 C:\Windows\Minidump\031016-26535-01.dmp 8 15 7601 417 885 2016/03/10 22:01:46 030516-22105-01.dmp 2016/03/05 16:16:45 CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION 0x000000f4 00000000`00000003 fffffa80`0c56e060 fffffa80`0c56e340 fffff800`03182e80 rdpbus.sys rdpbus.sys+4f2c060 Microsoft RDP Bus Device driver Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Microsoft Corporation 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) x64 ntoskrnl.exe+743c0 C:\Windows\Minidump\030516-22105-01.dmp 8 15 7601 417 693 2016/03/05 16:19:27 |

CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION indicates that a critical component of windows was modified in memory and windows detected the change and shutdown the system. I would run a full diagnostic on the system, starting with an anti-virus scan, an anti-malware scan (with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Superantispyware), a root-kit scan, and a system file checker (sfc /scannow as administrator). AV scan: check with Trend Micro online scan, Bitdefender online scan (may need Internet Explorer), or Kaspersky's free scanner. Malwarebytes Anti Malware free (don't forget to update after install). Superantispyware (don't forget to update after install). Malwarebytes anti root-kit scanner Sophos anti root-kit scanner Use the first answer to see how to run the system file checker as administrator. Some say to check the hard drive(s) with a hard drive diagnostic tool, as it may be an I/O error between the HDD and the keyboard. Similarly, it's then wise to update the motherboard chipset drivers. you can check for the chipset with CPU-Z. |

Several spyware but also one virus (apparently without payload) found. Malwarebytes reports Superantispyware itself as spyware, though that might be a false positive. I've re-allowed v8 units, so if you don't hear from me during the next month then all went well. Thanks a lot for all the help, all you guys (especially Ageless). |

So if you don't hear from me during the next month then all went well. Or one of the viruses won a round. Hope you keep on top of them. |

First time I left the computer alone for about an hour, then moved the mouse, the same thing happened again. Checked for virus etc., all clean this time. From the time when I first got the computer I switched off all energy saving options I could. I can only assume that there is one item (possibly part of the motherboard?) that goes into sleep mode after a considerable time (does not happen after 5 minutes), which I cannot prevent from happening, and this interferes with v8 somehow. Guess I'll do AstroPulse until v9 comes along. Thanks all for trying |

Greetings, It's a wonder that I stumbled onto this thread about a BSoD that I have had just a couple days ago. My last BSoD event was caused by my RAM going south. This event, I have no clue. I did some googling this morning and found that I could start a command prompt in admin mode and run 'driverquery.exe' which gives a list of drivers with some info such as dates. I was flabbergasted when I saw the list, to say the least. I knew about the hardware drivers that are installed when building a new system etc. and as far as I know mine are up-to-date. I have no idea what to do about this huge list: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. How is that even remotely possible? And, how do I go about doing any updating of ALL THESE drivers? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. :) Keep on BOINCing...! :) [edit]By the way, my BSoD was also a 'CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION 0x000000f4' event. I looked in the event log afterwards and could find no errors at the time of the BSoD. Go figure... :|[/edit] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Simple, you don't have to. Those drivers from 2005 and 2006 in the list, they are last versions of drivers for hardware that that version of Windows supports. Think about things still available in the BIOS, such as a floppy drive, the COM and LPT ports, USB 1.1 drivers etc. Especially for the USB ports, a USB 3.0 port supports USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 as well, so it still needs drivers for that, which haven't been updated until their last update when the switch to the newer USB happened. And as for COM ports, LPT ports, a floppy drive, these are usually still available in the BIOS, even if they are no longer available on the backside of the motherboard. There may be connectors still on the motherboard itself. Things you ought to keep up to date are motherboard (chipset) drivers and those are normally still found through the manufacturer of the motherboard or the chipset manufacturer. But even these can consist of a grouping of older drivers. Don't stare yourself blind on the dates. A lot of your Windows 7 file dates are of 2007, there may even be things way way older still used under Windows 7 (I for one have an application uninstaller with date 1998 in my C:\Windows\ folder). |

Unless I actually have an issue that a new driver version specifically addresses, I personally don't bother with updating drivers. Once I've got a system running & stable, that's it. If I get new hardware, (or new software that requires a later driver than I've got) then i'll install it's drivers & check for later ones & what issues they address. I've updated my video drivers once or twice- because i got newer hardware that required them. If it isn't broken, don't fix it IMHO. Grant Darwin NT |

Greetings, Ok, this is starting to really peeve me off! :( I had another BSoD last night and this time it's back to the original when my RAM went south. This is what I got: 032116-131321-01.dmp 3/20/2016 9:13:11 PM KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR 0x0000007a fffff6fb`80000000 ffffffff`c000000e 00000002`14d77880 fffff700`00000050 ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0 NT Kernel & System Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Microsoft Corporation 6.1.7601.18741 (win7sp1_gdr.150202-1526) x64 ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0 C:\Windows\Minidump\032116-131321-01.dmp 8 15 7601 368,296 3/21/2016 3:08:47 AM I just love my Grub loader! :) It has 2 options to run memtest86 so I ran it over night. RAM comes up clean, no errors reported. I ran System File Checker. Nothing reported there. I ran my Western Digital HDD diagnostics in extended mode. No problems there. I ran an Intel CPU diagnostics and found nothing. I have googled this to no extent. One thing that keeps popping up, though, is that the POST tells me that "A new CPU has been installed". Not so! It is the same CPU that I got when I rebuilt this machine. I have also googled the CPU thing and found an instance on Windows Seven Forums where a guy is having the same problem. He says that he found a bent pin on the CPU and fixed that, to no avail. These new fangled CPUs do not have "pins" per se. I also found when a guy in Russia? I think says that it is caused by the CPU socket used by ASUS. His fix was to remove it and replace it with a socket from an MSI MB. Yeah right, like I have the expertise to do such a thing. :| Oh yes, I have run MalwareBytes and a root kit scanner to no avail. And my AV reports nothing. I have checked for a BIOS update and mine is current. One thing that strikes me as really odd is that these BSoDs happen just after 9PM Central time in the U.S. The BSoD a few days ago happen after the PC had an up time of just over 30 days. This one was just over 3. Because the POST keeps telling me there's a new CPU, I tend to lean in that direction for a possible solution. I just haven't a clue what to do next. Thank you for listening and if you have any ideas, no matter how far fetched, I would be all ears to hear them and most appreciative. Keep on BOINCing...! :) [edit]Upon further googling I have found other possible causes one of which IS the motherboard socket. The other is that my CPU cooler pump may be too heavy for this new board and could be causing a minor "pin" separation. I will look into this, besides, it's just about time for another dust clean out. ;) Wish me luck! :)[/edit] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. If you wanted to share the host ID to aid in troubleshooting that would be helpful. You can leave you settings to hidden & the information is displayed anonymously. As seen here. Without knowing the host information there are some basic things that would help pinpointing your issue. What is the version of the video driver you are using? Is this host only running tasks on the GPU or is the CPU being used as well? If the host is also running CPU tasks. Is BOINC set to suspend CPU tasks when the computer is in use or only GPU tasks? Are you using any thermal monitoring software? SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

Greetings, So, I have removed the dust from the innards of this PC. I also removed the liquid cooling system. I cleaned the goop from the CPU, pulled it, inspected the "pins" and the socket, found no abnormalities and reinstalled the CPU. I installed the OEM heat sink and fan with a dab of Arctic Silver. Upon booting, the "A new CPU has been installed" message was still there, but I assume that was because I removed the CPU and reinstalled it. I have backed off on the number of cores used to 4 in BOINC. With the OEM fan, idle is somewhat warmer and BOINC running full bore was way too hot for my comfort. With BOINC running on 4 cores the temps are high 50s and mid 60s. With the liquid cooler and running 8 cores I was seeing low to mid to high 50s as the dust accumulated. I will now reboot to see if the "new CPU" message has gone away. Oh yeah, this PC seems to boot faster since swapping the cooling systems. :) Be back in a few... Keep on BOINCing...! :) [edit]The message has gone away and this PC is fully operational in about 1 minute. I am SOOO impressed. It looks like I will be looking for a liquid cooler that has a much lighter cooler pump. We'll have to wait to see if the BSoDs have gone the way of the Dodo as well. Woohoo!! :)[/edit] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Did you try replacing the battery on the motherboard? |
