I have a Mac Mini version 4,1 and a Mac book Pro 5,1, the Mini runs Snow Leopard and the Macbook runs El Capitain They both have the same processor core 2 Duo @ 2.66. The Mini does 134% more work than the Macbook (average credit 1292.6 mini 962.2 macbook) anybody know why or is OSX 10.11 that much more bloated. I know it's more bloated, my older mini (3,1) when upgraded (Mavericks to El Capitain) was useless until I upgraded the memory to 8gs. The Macbook is now 8GB and the Mini was 4gb when I noticed the difference. I've since upgraded the 4,1 mini to but that dosen't seem to affect how much it does. Thanks skywalker2of5 |

All your 2.66GHz processors aren't all the same: a Core 2 Duo T9550 is not equal to a Core 2 Duo P8800. Either are not the same as a Xeon @2.66GHz. If it were that easy, Intel wouldn't have been releasing so many different versions of CPU. Aside from that, the Core 2 Duo T9550 has a GeForce 9600M GT (512MB), while the Core 2 Duo P8800 has a GeForce 320M (256MB). Maybe because of the lower memory availability on the GPU on the P8800, but also perhaps because you gave it different project preferences (do no work on the Nvidia GPU) work is only done on the CPU. A GPU speeds up the work considerably. Which is why your T9550 with the 9600M GT runs circles around the other machine. Has not much to do with the operating system, but more with the hardware and the availability of science applications at this project that can make use of that hardware. [/url] |

Well duh ran CPU benchmarks on all 4 macs even though CPU are the same speed they do different amounts work. Instead of assumeing it was the OS I should have done that first. Bruce |
