Here is your laugh for the day!

Newport Police 'issue warning' to cat that looks like it's holding an assault rifle

On Tuesday, the Newport Police Facebook page, which is possibly the best local police Facebook page in America, posted a picture of a cat in a tree.

But this was no regular cat-in-a-tree. The cat looked distressingly like it was holding an assault rifle.

Ultimately though, Newporters can breathe a sigh of relief, because according to the Newport Police, "Reports of an armed cat this morning were unfounded."

LOL indeed. I read that one yesterday on the AccuWeather site. The picture is quite amusing. But, call the police??
Get real. Kitties cannot aim that well.

Meow.

Cardinals to Honor 'Rally Cat' with Appreciation Day Benefiting Animal Rescue

The St. Louis Cardinals' lucky charm is getting its own appreciation day.

The Cardinals announced they will be hosting the first-ever Rally Cat Appreciation Day at Busch Stadium on September 10, when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"Rally Cat," as he's become known, became an unofficial mascot for St. Louis after wandering on the field moments before Yadier Molina hit a grand slam during Wednesday's game.

Proceeds from the game honoring the stray kitten will go to the Animal Rescue Foundation to benefit feral animals just like him

Cool promotion!
And a wonderful way to honor Rally Cat by helping other stray kitties.
Hope they can find Rally Cat by then.
Seems some gal tried to claim him as her own, trotted out of the stadium with him, and he jumped away from her and got lost.
Kitty's whereabouts were still unknown as of the latest update I could find.

Cat fight: Feral rescue group is fighting St. Louis Cardinals over Rally Cat.
I don't care, as long as Rally Cat ends up well cared for.
He could come live with me!!

Lori and I went to the Fox Valley Humane Association yesterday to leave some donations and visit the kitties.
As usual, along with the donations we left some little pieces of our hearts there as well for the precious ones who do not have homes yet.
On the positive side, there was a lot of activity. Many other visitors for the kitties, a few folks 'test driving' some kitties, a few had already been adopted yesterday, and at least 6 or 8 cages with signs on that said already adopted or adoption pending. So, not a bad day at the shelter.

Meow.

Cat videos are high art at this Dallas film festival

Cat videos are pure internet gold.

This is not necessarily breaking news, but you might not expect legitimate filmmakers to stoop down for kitty content like the rest of us do.

Not so fast, says Dallas VideoFest director and UT Arlington film professor Bart Weiss.

“These cat films go way back. The first one we found was from 1894, made by Thomas Edison,” Weiss said in an interview earlier this month with WFAA-TV meteorologist Colleen Coyle, the emcee for VideoFest’s second annual CatFest Thursday at Dallas’ Texas Theatre. “So all the way back to the birth of cinema, we have cat films.”

Weiss, of course, is also a proud cat dad.

This cat got its purrfect job at a hospital

Meet the Hyndland Station Cat, which hangs around Hyndland railway station in Glasgow. It often takes a quick walk to the grounds of the nearby Gartnavel Hospital and, after showing the right cat-titude, landed itself a claw-some job.

Update on Rally Cat.
The Cardinals are not going to get him.
Instead, the St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach has decided that in his best interests, he will be fostered until he is big enough to be neutered and get his shots, and then be adopted out to some lucky and loving kitty person.
In another article, the Outreach said that they have received roughly 740 offers of adoption for Rally Cat.
Rally Cat clawed his way into our hearts, but he won’t be going to the Cardinals.

Scratch Post - Simon's Cat | NEW BLACK & WHITE
The claws come out in a case of sibling rivalry.

It started out with a hiss how did it end up like this?

The mischievous kitten interrupts Simon’s Cat during his ‘me time’ manicure proving that little brothers really can be annoying.

Does the kitten remind you of anyone? Do your cats have younger siblings? Do you have an annoying younger brother?

Hemingway's 54 six-toed cats survive Hurricane Irma inside the museum

The Florida Keys' most popular six-toed felines are safe, the Hemingway Home Museum reports.

Nearly 55 cats with the polydactyl (six-toed) gene have been accounted for after Hurricane Irma slammed the Keys as a Category 4 storm. Saturday, the museum posted photos of cats and dedicated staff members (10 stayed on the property) who survived the storm.

Dave Gonzales, curator at the museum, told NBC that when employees went to round up the 54 cats before Irma hit, some of the felines actually ran inside.

"Sometimes I think they're smarter than the human beings," Gonzales told NBC.

Irma took out electricity, water, and cable and telephone lines, Gonzales said. The staff was using three power generators to preserve food.

Posting this in the raccoon and the cat thread, as there are both in this cute video.
Glad the raccoon was a friendly one.
And mama kitty collects her little wayward one.
Somebody else's critter feeding dish.
