I'm running an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS...on a computer with Quadro FX1700 CUDA GPU card...

after running these instructions after Ubuntu 14.04 LTS OS install, I've installed CUDA:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager
sudo -u boinc boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org <Account Key>
sudo service lightdm stop
sudo killall Xorg
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-cuda-toolkit

that installed nVidia v340 drivers for Quadro FX1700...OS recognize my card, all works well, resolutions are changing (had problems on previous build, so reinstalled OS)...CUDA installed is v5.5!

any ideas what is wrong?!

There are still these threads about that on the BOINC forums, some may be old and their contents out of date, but they may help you figure it out. Others may be for AMD GPUs, but just following what's done and substituting your Nvidia card is all that's needed.

I also have the same problem.
Running Linux Mint 17.3 cinnamon - Boinc tells me "No usable GPUs found".
Any "simple" idea? Read the links above but I'm new to Linux... so a bit hard for me. Thank you!

Simple answer - wait until the Linux Nvidia application has been debugged :-(

(A few folks are working on it, but progress has been slower than expected for various reasons)

I think I got a solution for that problem. It's now showing that my nvidia GeForce GT640 is recognized by Boinc but I'm still waiting for some cuda WUs.
Best solution so far is installing this cuda driver:

The only thing I can do now is wait and see what happens. I'll let you know if that works.

No, there is no GPU application for Multibeam for Linux. It's still being tested.
There is a GPU application for Astropulse for Linux, but Astropulse isn't being split as much.

The thread you point out is of the beta test of the application at Seti Beta, the app isn't yet being used (or tested?) at Seti Main.

as far as I know, there are no new v7 AP or MB for LINUX_x64 (CUDA or no-CUDA)...& my device hasn't got any work on SETi@home:

As you should be aware APs are rarely produced, and as they "pay" well there are folks who grab as many as they can. The current AP application is at v7, its version being totally independent of the version of the MB application.

The ONLY MB v7 work is returns that have failed for one reason or another.

Work done on Beta does not contribute directly to the search for ET, but is there to test an application. Thus work for a particular application is dependent upon the tests being performed at the time and may be designed to fail, or be a sub-set of a full run, and may cause all sorts of other issues...

Did you uninstall the Nvidia drivers?
Did you install the AMD drivers?
When you use clinfo, does it find the GPU and does it show it's OpenCL capable?

By the way, which Linux?

Yes, I uninstalled the nvidia drivers.
It automatically installed the "xserver-xorg-video-ati (recommended) (open source)" but I switched to "fglrx updates".
Yes clinfo shows me
- OpenCL 2.0 AMD-APP (1800.11)
- AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

When you start BOINC, have the drivers and X loaded completely? It's possible you need to wait for them to load completely before you can start BOINC and it detects the GPU.

Can you test by restarting the BOINC binary?

It's frustrating... I bought an AMD GPU because it's supported for crunching Seti@home they said... Because Green Bank WUs are only available on (any) CPU and (only) AMD GPUs they said :(

Yeah well, the Greenbank tasks don't run that well on any GPU. They're either all so called VLARs (Very Low Angle Range) which run for a long time but are incompatible with running on a GPU (any brand GPU), or they run in seconds flat and therefore don't give much credit. I think 1.35 was the max I had.

So please, don't stare yourself blind on that.

Perhaps the same path is needed for AMDs. (Sorry, I'm more of a Windows guy, but apparently all the Linux gurus are busy elsewhere).

Most of the time you can get BOINC to see the AMD card by making a link to your libOpenCL.so.1 library in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu and moving the link to /usr/lib then renaming it libOpenCL.so
There still aren't any GPU Apps for Linux on SETI main. You'll have to get one from SETI Beta and install it manually or use one of the ones online. I'm still using the one from here, http://www.arkayn.us/forum/index.php?topic=191.msg4368#msg4368, for me it works just as well as the Apps currently on Beta and it does work with the Green Bank VLARs.
