why was it short-sighted?! we never knew the answer...until confirmation came from these: http://www.popularmechanics.com/space/telescopes/news/a18833/nasa-begins-turning-a-spy-satellite-into-a-new-hubble/?mag=pop&list=nl_pnl_news&src=nl&date=010616 ;) ![]() ![]() non-profit org. People say that the James Webb is the successor of Hubble. This is not true, Hubble works in the optical and UV range, Webb in the IR. The two ex spy telescopes could be the real successors to Hubble. Tullio |

The two ex spy telescopes could be the real successors to Hubble. well, yes they are...imagine how much better they'll work (if they make it right)... also, that Hubble mission was extended with every of 5 servicing...hopefully it will be serviced more & extend life beyond 2030-2040 reentry into atmosphere.. ;) ![]() ![]() non-profit org. You cannot service Hubble without a Shuttle. Also the JWST will be far away and it must work out of the box, as they say. But NASA will test it carefully before launching it. Tullio |

Diamonds are a girls best friend. Hubble Unveils a Tapestry of Dazzling Diamond-like Stars Resembling an opulent diamond tapestry, this image from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope shows a glittering star cluster that contains a collection of some of the brightest stars seen in our Milky Way galaxy. Called Trumpler 14, it is located 8,000 light-years away in the Carina Nebula, a huge star-formation region. Because the cluster is only 500,000 years old, it has one of the highest concentrations of massive, luminous stars in the entire Milky Way. ![]() Resembling an opulent diamond tapestry, this image from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope shows a glittering star cluster that contains a collection of some of the brightest stars seen in our Milky Way galaxy. Diamonds are a girls best friend. What is the object to the left of the bright star in the middle of the frame? Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

According to the Hubble site (which has a zoomable version of this shot) it's a dust globule. |

It is the Black Cloud described by Fred Hoyle in his book. Tullio |

According to the Hubble site (which has a zoomable version of this shot) it's a dust globule. It doesn't take much imagination to see it as something else. The universe is strange. Hubble telescope spots 'supermassive' black hole NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope captured a photo of a distant galaxy that’s home to one of the most massive black holes astronomers have ever discovered. The black hole is located 300 million light years away in the center of the Coma Cluster of the galaxy NGC 4889, which is the brightest galaxy in the newly released photo, according to a statement from NASA and the ESA. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/nation-now/2016/02/18/hubble-telescope-spots-supermassive-black-hole/80545228/ |

Go Hubble! Hubble Team Breaks Cosmic Distance Record By pushing NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope to its limits, an international team of astronomers has shattered the cosmic distance record by measuring the farthest galaxy ever seen in the universe. This surprisingly bright infant galaxy, named GN-z11, is seen as it was 13.4 billion years in the past, just 400 million years after the Big Bang. GN-z11 is located in the direction of the constellation of Ursa Major. http://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2016/hubble-team-breaks-cosmic-distance-record |

At Garching, in the headquarter of the European Southern Observatory, the contract has been signed for the construction in Chile of the European Extremely Large Telescope, with a 30 meters multi-mirror The main contractor is the Italian Astaldi group. It should be completed in 2024. Tullio |
