I bet that his insurance company won't be too pleased about it as that house is a write off.

Cheers.

Unreinforced masonry?! A big no no here in the land of shakes.

There is only one thing I see in the photo that concerns me on a rebuild and that is the diagonal crack on the corner of the lower masonry. Otherwise this looks as if you can shore up the roof members, rebuild the walls, then remove the shoring. Of course until the debris in the interior is removed to access the floor where the shoring needs to be placed. And a careful look at that diagonal fracture, you may be having to support that floor as well and that starts the rabbit hole.

I noticed that too, hence my agreement with WIggo- write off.
As you said- start on one bit to find further problems in another section, and then still more problems somewhere else.

I suspect that's why they decided not to try and support it then & there- supporting the upper section would reduce the load on the lower section, and we can't see along that section of wall where the 4WD ended up. There could be more movement along there as well, and stabilising the top section could result in further damage to the lower section if it's not braced as well.
Total loss IMHO.

Actually, what i noticed was the lack of cement between the bricks.
I'm sure there must be some in there (as there are a couple of sections of wall of half dozen or so bricks stuck together, and only a couple) but it's not particularly visible in either the side or front on view.

Has it been that long already? I must be getting old.

HMAS Voyager survivors commemorate maritime disaster's 60th anniversary off Jervis Bay.

The aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne was 1 unlucky ship, but it did survive 2 ships crossing its bow. Sadly those 2 other ships didn't survive at the cost of many lives and the 2nd ship's anniversary is in another 5yrs. :-(

It's hard keeping those flying fan thingies in the air.

6 dead after helicopter crashes in Mojave Desert.

A helicopter carrying six people crashed in the Mojave Desert Friday evening, killing all passengers aboard, according to authorities.

Two crew members and four passengers departed from Palm Springs, California, at 8:45 p.m., and were en route to Boulder City, Nevada, which is about 26 miles southeast of Las Vegas....
And sadly they tend to be deadly when they fall out of the sky.

I've just been offered a 15 minute "tester" flight in a small helicopter or a 30 minute tester flight in an aircraft with proper wings and a little fan at the front. No prizes for guessing which one I'll be doing. But that doesn't stop you making suggestions for either my choice or my reasoning.....

That is obvious, but the lack of rebar running vertically through the bricks to hold them in a stack after the mortar fails due to shaking is also apparent.

I'm wondering if the house insurance will pay anything. They could easily decide the construction was so shoddy as to void the policy. As well as insisting that the car insurance pay for it. Car insurance will pay policy limit, but that would only pay to fix the car and maybe enough to pay for a structural engineer to give a thumbs up or down on a repair. House insurance if they pay would have to sue the driver in the homeowner's name and ... wait, suing yourself, that's an automatic loss! Then wait until the mortgage lawyers get involved. If someone is lucky maybe shoddy construction company has insurance to get at least part of the repairs covered. I'm sure the car manufacturer will get sued for making a vehicle that doesn't set it brakes automatically when the driver's door is opened. The only way insurance pays is if the driver had an umbrella policy as it would have to pick up what is over the car policy limit.

This one won't be over anytime soon.

Go for both with the small powered fan that includes the big flying fan:

Autogyro

Those are reliably as simple as you can get, and can land on a sixpence...

As in all flying, the greatest patience needed is to hang around for the best weather...

Happy flying!

American Airlines plane overruns runway when landing at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport
An American Airlines plane overran the runway while landing at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport on Saturday night.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which the FAA said was caused by a braking malfunction.

American Airlines said in a statement that 99 passengers and six crew members were on board the Boeing 737-800. The flight took off from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C., and landed at DFW Airport about 7:40 p.m.

The passengers and crew were bused from the plane to the terminal, according to the FAA.

What is the world coming to?

Dashcam footage shows the moment a woman was struck by a car while crossing a road in Melbourne. What happened next left viewers shocked.

Did the idiot driver run a red light or did he try to get the jump on the on coming traffic to do a right hand turn? (it looked like the later)

And just 1 witness even bothered to help her before the idiot driver finally got out and kissed her.

I'm wondering where that quote actually originated from.
The NTSB does the investigations, and that would have hardly started. Maybe the airline made something up to tell the FAA, or the reporter did?

On the Aviation Safety Network site the report there was
ADS-B data suggest that the aircraft touched down with about 1100 m of runway remaining with the aircraft coming to a stop in the runway end safety area (RESA).
Given that runway is just under 2.6km long, that means the plane landed over halfway down the runway- that isn't a braking issue. That's a piloting issue.
Landing a light aircraft, if you need to use the taxiway at the end of the runway, then you'll land further down the runway. But a large jet? You land in the designated touchdown zone if you want to stop before you run out of runway.
