Listening to Star Trek: Kobayashi Maru.
Now the cd I made has changed over to Star Trek The Original Series Volume 10: Elaan of Troyius / Spock’s Brain. It is playing the music score from those two episodes.

Great discovery, thanks Puh. I usually try to avoid ambient music, but this composer is rather eclectic, and has something to offer to everyone.

I especially liked from Björn Lynne these pieces: Sirius X, Koloss, Incoming transmission, Poisoned planet, Mechatron, Join the Team (sorry, not sure anyone would want to join this team) and Send me a signal (oops, it's SETI@home themed, but that's from the late Keith Flint's group The Prodigy).

Inspired by a book from Arthur C. Clarke with a very similar title, this is one of my Desert Island selections; colonizers embark aboard an intergalactic vessel and, after a long trip, settle down on a water world where they meet inhabitants with whom Earth previously made contact - Mike Oldfield - The Songs Of Distant Earth.

Imagine you find yourself drifting into empty space with no possibility of controlling your spacecraft.

This desperate journey between hope and despair is what the 1997 “Into the void” album by Björn Lynne seeks to capture.

I find many of the tracks to be fantastic. But I have to say that “Relentless” and – above all - “The Nothing” are my favourites. (What a spectacular track that is, “The Nothing”!)

Please let me be clear that this album does not contain any immediate chart-toppers (as I see it). On the contrary, you have to listen to it a few times to get the hang of it. But if and when you do, you’ll be duly rewarded – in my experience.

As you can imagine, I am not the copyright holder of that Youtube entry.

Is this related to SETI@home? Only very vaguely, I suppose. (But enough to warrant a “Don't know where it should go? Stick it here.” post, I figured.)

This if funny. Mike Oldfield's first record "Tubular Bells" in the early 70's was published by Virgin Records that was founded by Richard Branson.
Sir Richard Branson later founded Virgin Galactic for space tourists.
I wonder who inspired whom...

Neutron Stars
https://youtu.be/jJqelIAQ2bo
"By translating the frequency of pulsar signals into sound waves, one can get music", the video explains, kicking off an audio-visual display of neutron stars transmitting their radio signals deep into space. The sounds are played one by one, before being combined for a beautiful final crescendo featuring nine pulsars "playing" together.

Dvorak Cello Concerto played by Mario Brunello and the Italian Symphony Orchestra on Radio3. The conductor is an Indian but I could not catch his name.

A lot of Tycho Radio/Classical Radio on Google Play Music. Some Benn Jordan, who has done some music for the Adler Planetarium. Sometimes changing it up with Falling in Reverse, and others like that
