So much for McDonald's "all day breakfast": I tried to order two sausage biscuits at 6 pm, and was told they could only do muffins. Huh?

Not all items are available all day. In most parts of the country, they only have hotcakes, muffins, and breakfast burritos. I understand that in the deep south, they have biscuits instead of muffins. Either way, no McGriddles or bagels.

However, a commercial for it just came on TV and it shows both muffins and biscuits. From what I've read, though, franchisees aren't required to carry everything.

Not all stores have all items all day. Some ran out of kitchen space.
<ed>Remember each item needs a different cooker / steam tray so they have to rotate them if the store's kitchen isn't big enough.

Speaking of muffins, there's been some sort of weird shortage on sourdough English muffins in the grocery store. I haven't been able to find any in days, and I even asked the bread man, and he acted like they'd been discontinued.

So "all day breakfast" of what we choose to serve, not of what you
actually want. I guess it meets the general definition.

That would be a very, very big mistake.

Perhaps he meant that your store won't be carrying them anymore.

Is there another kind besides sourdough?

My guess.
A steak fried with some onions and bell pepper with egg yolk on the top.
And guacamole besides.
This breakfast is a must if you are working as a lumberjack in the winter:)

There a bit at the top of the plate that
looks like the end of a shrimp, and also rice?

It looks like the insides of a couple of steak burritos, topped with cheese, guacamole on the side, minus the two tortillas that would normally wrap-up the insides.

Is that hollandaise sauce there as well?

edit:
I take it this is not the Atkins diet.

Best guess is shredded beef with chopped peppers and spices. Melted cheddar cheese on top. Served with a side of guacamole. Needs other stuff like fajita sized tortillas and salsa.
