i see lots of different teams from many different countries? should i find a team? iv messaged a few local teams with no response. what is the whole point of the teams?

Teams are about mutual support - some teams are very large, others really are one man bands. (How you can have a team of one is beyond me.)
Some teams are multi-national, drawing from all over the World with some common aim or focus, be it a wild animal (like the Raccoon Lovers), or the use of particular hardware (like the GPUUG).
For a few years I didn't want to join a team, but then someone I know started one, and I joined it almost as soon as it was formed. I've stayed because of the friendly rivalry, and banter....
Join Raccoon Lovers and enjoy being part of a slightly off the wall, but very supportive team.

I guess teams is some sort of 'Gamefication'. This encourages contributors and gives them some sort of belonging.
