Seems like our American friends are being screwed twice for their medicines. The manufacturers claiming the need to charge high prices so they can research new and better drugs, when they actually spend more on PR and advertising. And what they do spend on research is on making their own slightly different version of known drugs. While all the time the US government is spending taxes to fund the Universities to research completely new drugs. This is then sold to the pharmaceutical companies for pennies. washington post - Why do drug companies charge so much? Because they can. |

Seems like our American friends are being screwed twice for their medicines. What's wrong with advertising? The ones for .... male ... problems are hilarious! Someday soon, I shall go to my doctor and be asked to be prescribed everything advertised for problems I do not have. LOL! |

Seems like our American friends are being screwed twice for their medicines. At my age, the only penile problem is not getting it up, it's getting it to pee...LOL. THAT is erectile dysfunction. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Seems like our American friends are being screwed twice for their medicines. I'll answer that with a question. Why do prescription drugs need to be advertised to the general public? Are you saying that the American in the street is qualified to make choice between drug A and drug B. If so then show me evidence because I see signs of it, the average American seems just as uneducated as the average Brit. |

I understand that new drugs come along after a long period of research and clinical trials and that it takes a lot of money to get a new drug to market. I also understand that any drug that can save one person's life may kill another person with the same ailment and that due to the legal climate in the US and most likely other countries pharmaceutical companies expose themselves to the possibility of lawsuits that could bring them to their knees. That may or may not justify the high cost of some drugs. But I feel that certain drugs that are established on the market like insulin that is needed by those who take it for the rest of their lives should be price capped by law and any price increase only be allowed after being reviewed as necessary to maintain minimum profitability for the company making it. This may be considered a Cinderella point of view by those who have no need for such medications but not to the millions who need certain drugs to just stay alive. Seems like our American friends are being screwed twice for their medicines. I was being sarcastic. Clearly, much of what of is advertised is not widely-used because it is not widely-needed. I also seem to recall a law was changed or passed in the not-so-distance past to allow this type of advertising in the first place. We didn't see this junk when we were much younger. |

The only advertising that exceeds that of Pharmaceuticals is that of the Pharmaceutical Mal-Practice attorneys..........any questions? So obvious. But it started around 1995 and was satirized in a great science fiction show. Here is a ripoff of what was in that show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6pMgPfvbjw. "Comrade, comrade, get on down. Get that grain right into town. "Pledge your support for public television ... or else. We know who you are." |

The only advertising that exceeds that of Pharmaceuticals is that of the Pharmaceutical Mal-Practice attorneys..........any questions? SCOTUS did that for us when they said the State Bar Associations could not prevent shysters from advertising. Something about the First Amendment. |
