The "free market" at it's finest. Exactly, and that is one of the things wrong with our health care system. |

here in florida if you do not have a lot of money and can afford insurance you will get free health insurance provided you have a job and meet the requirements to be categorized in the poverty level united way is providing this only thing you have to pay (if you have to pay anything relating to copay ) is ranging from 5$ to 20$ depending on your income they will pay for almost any treatment or surgery you might need but they will keep tabs on you and make sure you not cheating the system antibiotic are free if you get them prescribed ... the publix supermarket chain is the ones providing this walgreens has a program that is 20$ a year and gives you discounted rates on medication and in cases where you need these meds to live united way will pickup the tab i fyou are an employee of the local hospital the hospital will give you free walkin services with a 10$ deductible they will also allow emergency room services for dirt cheap and they let you use a state of the art fitness studio including trainers I came down with a bad case of i don't give a crap |

Those are lobbyists from the pharmaceutical companies that got paid to lobby it the average american could't care less about other countrys benefits the only ones complaining about free or almost free healthcare are the filthy rich and companies that would then be controlled and given a price instead of these ultra high prices doctors complain because the corrupt ones cannot overcharge you anymore and give you unnecessary procedures their biggest scam is coming in quick looking at you for 5 minutes then tell you to come back tomorrow for other stuff yet they charge you 20-50$ copay every time you come in and that is why they want you to come back multiple times there is no reason a hospital will charge you 47$ for a vicodin or oxi or aspirin .. pick a pill if you like the prices are 1000% inflated I came down with a bad case of i don't give a crap |

The "free market" at it's finest. Ah yes. Can't afford to keep the production line open. Happens all the time. Drugs come off patent, everybody and their mothers uncle starts selling them, the price crashes, the suppliers lose their arse and it gets down to one maker. He can't raise prices and he can't sell enough to make it up on volume; never mind the next patent drug that he could put down the line will make him got-bucks. That is the free market. |

Hedge funder buys rights to drug used by AIDS patients and raises price from $13.50 to $750 per pill Yes, the journalist is a moron. People need it like they need air. They will pay any price to get it. So charge accordingly. Aren't IP rights grand? |

I suspect that this is just another example of marketing to the rich and stupid. Whats the point of marketing a life saving medicine to the rich and stupid? Its not some diet pill that helps you lose weight or something, its a drug you only take when you have a very specific illness. Those kind of drugs don't need marketing. |

lol. Right, so you are saying that the rich and stupid also take chemo therapy drugs when they don't have cancer as long as you make it expensive enough? Again, this involves a drug that is used to treat a very specific condition, people who aren't sick will not be taking this medicine. |

I suspect that this is just another example of marketing to the rich and stupid. Hehehe. In our country its however difficult because the IRS are closely monitoring doctors. I know a dentist that went to France with a colleague and the IRS was asking if the trip was necessary! |

The reason for a $1300 price on a pill is not the rich+stupid, it's the rich+stupid+greedy+politicians who are getting posh paying jobs as lobbyists for big pharma. Big pharma and scumbag attorneys/hedgefunders know that the price will be paid, not by individuals but by the government. FULL price. A runaway spendthrift government who will pay $1,000 for a military grade toilet seat or screwdriver will justify paying any price for a life saving drug to appear to be doing good. The people suffer and big bloat just keeps getting fatter. This is what happens when you mandate 'universal' health care with the insurance companies and government in charge. Theft, Fraud, Corruption, and Deceit are the real 'four horsemen' of the coming apocalypse. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

Other countries that have universal healthcare or mandated health insurance have much lower healthcare costs than in the US. And that has been the case for a long time, Americans have been paying comparatively a lot more than people in other countries. |

But that include expensive lawyers in the US.... There is lawyers in the hospital waiting rooms that happily give out business cards. |
