I have installed it and it seems fine so far. Oh noooo... Not you also! Almost like seeing a dear friend become zombied along with the 'too many others' :-( All your assumed privacy and that of all your contacts is now victim to Microsoft and their 'partners'. All for zero price. One to watch for how the dust settles. The talk in my local pub is that Redmond should be nuked (after all innocents have been safely evacuated). IT is what we allow it to be. I have installed it and it seems fine so far. 3 Windows 10 privacy dangers to fix now Needless to say I did a custom install and turned off most of the worse privacy violations. Reality Internet Personality |

I have installed it and it seems fine so far. Well I still use things such as Gmail and Dropbox so the NSA has access to most of my stuff anyway. Reality Internet Personality |

Well I still use things such as Gmail and Dropbox so the NSA has access to most of my stuff anyway. Of course therein lies the problem everyone seems to ignore. I have had a Hotmail and Gmail account for many years, Also use Google Drive and OneDrive, as long as they have been around. I use Google Chrome as my main browser. So of course MS and Google already know all they need to about me. I do use adblock when surfing and consign all e-mails from names I don't know to the bin. But as had been said, unless you stop surfing the net stop using e-mail and your smartphone either Android or Apple you really can't say your are safe. I have installed Win 10 on 4 Machines, of course following the privacy advice in these threads but I suspect whatever I do GCHQ and NSA can find out all they need to know about me in a short time. Remember Snowden didn't stop the spying, he just made it go even deeper and probably more difficult to trace. Oh yes the more I use Win 10 the more I like it. |

So... Really?... All your personal data 'belongs' to Marketing? This is just one example of the abuse of personal data: Information watchdog investigates 'charity data sales' The Information Commissioner's Office is looking into claims that an 87-year-old man's personal details were sold or passed on by charities up to 200 times. ... lost £35,000 after his information ended up with scammers. ... Former army colonel Mr Rae is said to have been contacted by and asked for money by charities more than 730 times after his data was repeatedly sold... Unfortunately, various charities have bought into the hard sell... As personally witnessed for the carefully planned speech to leverage all the key words and heart strings to get to your direct debit... All a cruel game? Or just cruel? Is this really so?... Don't want to upgrade to Windows 10? You'll download it WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT Microsoft now pushing upgrade files via Windows Update Microsoft would really, really, really like you to upgrade to Windows 10. So much so that even if you've opted not to request the upgrade, you'll get it anyway, even if you never intend to install it. The software giant confirmed to The Register on Thursday that it's been pushing out the necessary files for the upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 systems via Windows Update, even if you haven't bothered to "reserve" an upgrade using Redmond's adware app. "For those who have chosen to receive automatic updates through Windows Update, we help customers prepare their devices for Windows 10 by downloading the files necessary for future installation," a Microsoft spokesperson told... Ouch... All for your own good really?!... Unbelievable... That sort of thing just has to be illegal and be considered to be fraud... Or?... IT is what we allow it to be... Is this really so?... Unauthorized access to a computer system. Isn't that what Aaron Swartz did? You called it legal then, now the shoe is on the other foot. |

Is this really so?... Shooting with your distraction trolling again?... Brief recap there of student downloads university research articles that he was fully entitled to access, gets busted for entering a network closet, the University has no wish to press charges, and yet a highly zealous government official bankrupts him and hounds him to death with what I think any right minded citizens will consider to be an abuse of government power. And note that ALL USA citizens are very likely similarly guilty by the same abuse of the law used if so targeted... You are guilty merely by consequential use any device of the internet... (Ever read that EULA that you have agreed to by default?... GUILTY.) All very silly and people die as a consequence. Only in the USA? IT is what you allow it to be. Well, it is not just the USA, but is likely the case in every nation in the world. As Tacitus said in "The Annals of Imperial Rome": The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws. Nations around the world have enacted so MANY laws, everyone is guilty of breaking them, likely several a day. This gives the Governments a VERY easy time of harassing the people they don't like, even unto death (Aaron Swartz). Abuse of Government Power? Yep. Re: Windows 10... TANSTAAFL. Ask yourself 'why is M$ giving away Win10 for 'free''? They ain't! They are trying to maximise Market Share for Windows 10. Along the way (remember that EULA you had to click?) you gave them permission to load whatever they want to on your computer (mandatory updates). You also gave them permission to use all sorts of information about you. When it is time, Windows 10.1/11/Next/whateverthefarktheyaregonnacallit will get pushed out, which will require a subscription to function. And until that revenue stream comes online, they are busy making money being P.R.'ists (Privacy Rapists). I know you are (nearly) on the same page, Martin... but everyone else? Well, they can open their eyes or they can keep their heads in the sand. Their choice. *nix, especially Linux, rocks! I just wish I could do EVERYTHING on it. But, some stuff I do *requires* windoze... :( Yes, I know I am running Windows 10 on this box. Im watching what it does. Know thy enemy, and all... |

And people use this Vendor's Operating System?... All just my personal observations and silly comment as ever... There have been more than one example of a Windows update shutting down business... How many more reminders are needed?... Comment to "Weird garbled Windows 7 update baffles world" Enough! Microsoft seem to have an endless supply of "last straws". It is painfully obvious that they can no longer be relied upon to provide products which are fit for use, and that they cannot be trusted with user's data. Their remaining customers must be getting close to despair. I don't have a problem with any of this, because I abandoned MS completely about six years ago. But even from the standpoint of an outside observer, MS's behaviour beggars belief. All just a case of the fun game of Monopoly practices? Really?? Comment to "Microsoft slaps 13 per cent increase on mobile enterprise levy" Won't make a difference Microsoft is adept at applying the "Boiling Frog" pricing model. They notch it up slowly enough that the customers complain and whine but like they keep coming back, as it doesn't hurt more than changing the whole infrastructure. I have pretty much zero sympathy for MS customers when prices increases. They bought every piece of their infrastructure and trusted it to one vendor, using locked down protocols and file structures. What did they think would happen to the price? Ironically so many companies are now in this place, that it makes it harder for any companies to do the right thing. And all rounded off by a game of protection/extortion?... Microsoft and Google ink SECRET TREATY to end all their patent wars ... The exact terms of the agreement – as in, who gets what – were not disclosed. Your guess is as good as ours... ... Microsoft has been the chief aggressor in this spat... Since then, the software giant has signed patent licensing agreements with just about every Android device vendor in the business. Although it keeps the terms of such deals under its hat, patent licensing related to Android is thought to bring it more than a billion dollars in revenue each year. It's even been said that Microsoft earns more money from Android than it does its own Windows Mobile operating system... All just my personal opinion but is such a game as this legal? All a game of business with no morals and the users be damned?? IT is what we allow it to be... Cheeky or ominous? This is The Register's take on that: Next year's Windows 10 auto-upgrade is MSFT's worst idea since Vista ... Right from the get-go Microsoft has made it clear that it is looking for a very fast rollout of Windows 10. The new operating system was offered as a free upgrade for some users – a first for Microsoft – and ever since the launch, Microsoft has been hustling people to upgrade, by fair means or foul. Earlier this month El Reg's tips inbox hit overload... The comments to that article make for interesting reading also... All too unbelievable? Or is it that most people know no better? IT is what we allow it to be... Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

From the Number Crunching Windows 10 thread... ... Microsoft Admits Windows 10 Auto-Spying Can’t Be Disabled ... bulk data collection of American citizens, as well as an increasing loss of privacy in the face of the new digital Big Brother State – but amazingly, few are really aware of the fact that even the NSA needs working partners in crime to carry out their assault on American freedoms... ... it appears that Microsoft’s new “operating†(policing) system, Windows 10, has given itself permission to watch your every move through its built-in spying feature ... that it would have the outright gall to build a back door into its latest OS and make it a nonnegotiable clause in the customer’s the Terms and Conditions?... This really is making the purist nonnegotiable stance FOR FREEDOM and to be free from coercion that has long been preached by Richard Stallman look to be the only good way forward. How much IT freedom and consequent real-world freedom do people know they have lost?! IT is what we allow it to be...
