NASA pondering added digital message to aliens aboard their New Horizons spacecraft.

This project, known as the One Earth Message, is being led by Jon Lomberg, who was design director for the "golden records" that were placed aboard NASA's twin Voyager spacecraft before their 1977 launch to teach any aliens that might encounter the probes about humanity and its home planet. The goals of the One Earth Message are similar, but the new project would be a more global and collaborative effort, asking people around the world to contribute images, sounds and ideas for this farflung "message in a bottle."

"This is really a chance to try to think about ourselves from the long perspective," Lomberg told Space.com. "We'll never know if this extraterrestrial audience that we're designing it for will receive it. But we do know that the people of Earth who participate, who play a role in it — it can literally change their lives."

When NASA's New Horizons mission completes its study of Pluto in the summer of 2015, data from Earth will stream to the spacecraft to create a digital record that it will carry with it beyond the solar system. The record echoes the Golden Record carried by NASA's Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft in the 1970s and the plaques onboard the Pioneer spacecraft.

This is a Flexible Funding campaign, meaning that all funds pledged will go towards the project, even if the funding goal is not met.

Looks like they fell a little short. I haven't been able to find who is holding the purse strings.

I didn't say or imply that all of us would be hostile or aggressive toward alien visitors. But I do believe that a sizeable majority of the human race could and would, at this time, be convinced that the aliens were here to take over regardless of their true intentions.

My first words to a bonafide alien visitor would be, can you fix my body?

I have to agree with that, it would be like Intergalactic Xenophobia! All the women would be worrying about whether they have xray vision and could read the labels on their underwear :-)) All the men would worry about them pinching all their girlfriends because of super natural abilities :-))
