I have a problem and I'm not sure it can be corrected with my dog.
it's a is a mixed chihuahua and has an excessive urge to lick.
Oh I have heard many things like they need salt or just their way of greeting.
when I tell her to stop she will for about a minute and back at it.
and then I have heard their is nothing you can do about it.

She is a good dog over all and very freindly to almost everyone.
but if I could just cure her of this I would be one Happy Camper.

Call you veterinarian for an appointment, mention what you dog is doing.
It might be just a "bad habit" you dog has started but I would not hesitate to get a professional opinion / medical evaluation.

8 pages to read: Help! My dog licks everything
Although many owners think it is simply annoying, excessive licking can harm a dog or be a sign of medical problems. Learn to identify the causes of repetitive licking in dogs and how to treat it, so you are ready the next time owners bring up the issue.

...snipped from the first page:
Finally, nausea is a common cause of excessive licking of surfaces, so a detailed history should include questions about the dog's diet (type, amount, and frequency fed), treats, and table scraps and any medications or supplements the dog is receiving. Do not assume that since you have not prescribed any medications lately, the dog is not receiving anything that would make it nauseated. It is increasingly common for owners to give their pets supplements, table scraps, raw meat, or bones and not think it is important enough to mention to you.

And if your dog is constantly licking the same spot on you Grant then get a doctor to look at that spot buddy. ;-)

Cheers.

You didn't say what your dog is licking.
Our dog used to lick my ears almost everyday sometimes excessive and also giving me "French kisses".
But strangely my GF didn't get the same treatment.
Anyway she stopped doing it when she was about four.
I don't think there is a problem with your dog.

All my dogs have been like that for 99% of people (the 1% need watching and dogs know) and so long as they keep their licking to below the knees I don't mind at all.

My girl turned 4 just before Xmas and has finally dropped the puppy phase.

Cheers.

‘Hero’ dog Rex was shot 3 times while protecting teen during home invasion

RENTON, Wash. – A two-year-old German Shepherd is being praised as a hero.

The dog named Rex took three bullets Wednesday while protecting his teenage owner from burglars who broke inside their Des Moines, Wash., home.

Rex is now being cared for by doctors at the BluePearl Renton veterinary hospital, and now his owners are trying to raise money to pay for his care.

Sixteen-year-old Javier Mercado can’t help but thank Rex – he’s convinced his dog saved his life.

I bet the Vet is getting rich off this one.

My dog would lick them to death.

Have a friend, her dog got into antifreeze so she held the dog and I drove
90 miles to a Vet school at UC Davis college . Oh they saved the dog okay but the bill
was $12,000. The dog lived another 4 years after that.

I think only one state in the US has antifreeze that is bitter to animals but I think all of them should.
the other is sweet.

Shelter Gives Dogs Their Very Own Armchairs To Make Them Feel At Home
They've become so much more confident — especially the pups who were nervous
No matter who’s working in the office at Knox County Humane Society in Illinois, Buster the dog always manages to steal their seats.

Whether they’re doing paperwork or making phone calls, staff members are constantly trapped in their chairs by the large pit bull, who’s very persistent about cuddling and peeking over their shoulders. When they get up, he fully claims the chair as his own.

Deaf and partially blind dog stays with toddler for 15 hours after she gets lost in Australian bush

An elderly family dog stayed by the side of a three-year-old girl after she got lost in the Australian bush for more than 15 hours.

Loyal Max, who is 17 years old, deaf and partially blind, led police to toddler Aurora after she wandered off into Queensland's Southern Downs, ABC News reported.

The young girl went missing from her home at about 3pm local time on Friday and by Saturday morning 100 police officers and volunteers were desperately searching for her.

She was found safe and well with Max, who has been declared an honorary police dog, at 8am.
