Only by trojan backdoor. We speak not about magic here but about real tech abilities. Don't mix traces one leave in Internet and local file system data. EDIT: there is such things as routers, firewalls, IP hiding, port redirection... in short, w/o help from inside no local access possible on properly configured system. That's why Win10 looks so scary. It's OS, inner level, no defense possible... P.S. So, Win10 will require very well configured proxy between it and outer world. Like 2-side firewall. Interesting to see how soon reports will appear that Win10 ignores hosts content and accesses to M$ servers even if re-routed by hosts file?... I think there will be such. Then only separate hardware proxy or separate PC as proxy will remain. |

Hi Tbar, This is just the Tip of the old 'berg; Xbox that's been moded? unauthorised use of kinnect? Folks tend to forget M$ has its fingers in the hardware pie as well:-( Watch out for your M$ keyboard/mouse with a dodgy key/button, M$ will disable it/them:-) Regards, Cliff, Been there, Done that, Still no damm T shirt! |

Hi Grant, No it wasn't. Hacking or cracking or whatever name people want to give it is gaining access, without permission, to a system & it's data. Done with permission, circumventing system security measures, is security testing. Giving permission to access the system means any access is authorised. So it's not hacking, cracking or even testing. Grant Darwin NT |

So far i know multi OS systems become more and more popular. I have 3 OSes installed. Win 7, Win 10 and Linux Mint. So you can choose the OS for what you want to do. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/showip/ Add-on for Firefox which shows the current external IP address - no magic involved just data sent by your browser. If an add-on can access it then it won't be difficult for anyone else to Which is the point I was trying to make, that as soon as you access the web your data is not secure (why secure data is not stored on networked devices in government agencies or large corporations as Sony should have learnt) |

You can use VPN and search engines like startpage without IP forwarding. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Hi Jamie, Sounds similar to the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2000/23/contents) in the UK and the new laws they are trying to bring in at the moment I'd rather not trust it to either.. I don't use loyalty cards, use my debit card sparingly and only online, never at a cashpoint or in a store.. Have no use for facebook, twitter, witter or whatever other so called social media is currently in favour. Don't text anyone nor own a smartphone, just a good old payg mobile that is switched OFF until I want to place a call. And that's registered to the wrong name and address:-( Hell I don't even trust the DWP, they and local govt loose data far to often for my liking. Never mind GCHQ:-) they and the NSA call troll for all they're worth and get nowt worth a dam from me:-) Regards, Regards, Cliff, Been there, Done that, Still no damm T shirt! |

So far i know multi OS systems become more and more popular. IF one of them sniffing others partitions?.... I'm afraid it will not help... |

Again, my external IP is not the same as my local file system. Moreover, particular PC has local IP, not external one in most cases now (more than one device per flat and only 1 IP from ISP). To leave less traces will mean nothing if OS itself is spyware. |

So far i know multi OS systems become more and more popular. Not partitions. Different HD and no private data at all. It helps believe me. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

So far i know multi OS systems become more and more popular. Exactly, use the platform that works best for what you want to achieve I've a Win 10 dual booted with Ubuntu, and Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 3 Android on a phone and tablet IOS on a phone and iPad They all have their benefits and downsides and as far as I can work out none of them are far better overall than the other |

Hi Jamie, Yea they all suck to be fair I can only talk from personal experience here, having been contracted to work with several government organisations, I can honestly say that their data security, for the most part, is lacking to say the least... Quick example, I had to be security cleared to work with a recent customer so had to provide multiple personal documents to prove eligibility to live and work in the UK, along with the standard security questionnaire. They 'misplaced' my documents on no less than 3 occasions, hence my mistrust of them.... |

Its really not too difficult to get a local IP address from an external IP Address. And once you have 1 local IP address you can easily compromise the whole local network To be classed as spyware it has to be covert: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/spyware
There is nothing covert about Microsoft transmitting the data, in fact they have been quite open and honest about it |

Ok, I can see maybe the Games (the gameboys are gonna love it), but Hardware? We don't like brand X GPUs, so we will not support it. Microsoft buys a brand X motherboard/sound chip/video chip manufacturer and next year only those will be supported. Any slow USB 1.1 devices, support dropped. |

Ok, I can see maybe the Games (the gameboys are gonna love it), but Hardware? Anyone remembers the Fritz chip ? So thats nothing new. Each motherboard with UEFI bios can disable certain hardware. Buying such stuff is rather questionable. Also MS tried it once with WinXP. Remember XPAntispy ? With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Nope. How to send any of my local files can be qualified as "needed for speech recognition" or smth alike? Contacts/keyboard/sound... well, but any particular file? Maybe it's my unpublished paper or personal photo or whatever, but Cortana don't need it to understand me better :) They honest about claim they will download anything they want. But dishonest in the reasoning why this needed. They honestly want unallowable things. Like maniac killer that honestly post his next victim on facebook %) |

Cortana doesn't send that information, from Microsofts own website: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-10/cortana-privacy-faq
I think you mean the advanced error reporting functionality that MS has released with Windows 10 where it sends more information than Windows 7\8\8.1 including running applications\memory\files open etc. Or do you mean if MS has reason to believe that you are somehow in breach of the Terms & Conditions of the licence or engaged in illegal activities on your PC when it can disclose certain information and data from your HDD? |
